leading merchants in this section.
His friends regretted his determina
tion to leave Walterbosp. nnd will
all be equally glad to welcome him
Unfortunately for Mr. Zalin he
had leased his residence and store
next door to the postoffice, the resi
dence now being occupied by t ie.
family of Mr. and Mrs B. Levy, and
the “More hv the Colleton Barga n
House. Mr Zalin has. however,
leased from K. T. H. Shaffer the
ston* formerly occupied by S. F nn
Jewelrv Company, next door to
Beach Bros., and will begin business
there in a few weeks, or as soon as
his stock of goods arrive. For a
residence Mr Zalin has leased Mrs.
A C. vonLehe’s home and xxill nxov *
in there in a few days.
A. A. Patterson, Jr.,
Lands Good Job
A A Patterson, Jr., who has been
chief of police for Walterboro for
several* years, has tendered bis res
ignation to become effective after to
day to accept a position as assistant
to Dr. Boyd, agent in charge of ti'k
eradication in tills county. Dr. Boyd
has recently had so great demands
upon his time that it has become Im
possible for him to attend to the
duties of his office alone, and he has
had to call in the assistance of a
helper. Mr. Patterson has received
the appointment, and will begin his
new duties on the first of June.
The work of tic* eradication in
this county is progressing nicely,
and a great many new dipping vats
are being constructed over the coun
ty. These ’‘-bax-e to be built under
the supervision of the agent in
charge, and the appointment of Mr.
Patterson to assist Mr. Boyd will
greatly facilitate the building of
these vats. It is possible that the
vork of eradicating the cattle tick
will have progressed so far by the
end of the year that this county will
he declared under quarantine. When
this Is done It will be essential that
every community be provided with
vats. Dr. Boyd or Mr. Patterson
either will be pleased to hear from
anyone contemplating the installa
tion of a rat.
