Editor Thomas M. Seawell. This is
so good that we say to it ‘ a Amen, ,,
and ask that our readers apply it
to Colleton county, and act accord
ingly. The editorial follows:
It is our purpose to urge up
on the rittsens of Hampton
county that they begin now to
make thefr preparations to be
present at this meeting. The
time has come when the people
of flhls section of the State and
more especially the people of
Hampton county, have ah op
portunity sueh as they have
never had before that will bring
about the development of/the
low country. A few weeks ago
we urged that Hampton county
be well represented al the Wal
terboro meeting ami as a result
Hampton county had more rep
resentatives present than any
other county In the section.
Now in the coming meeting at
Ridgeland Hampton county
must do what she has already
done In the matter of the 'Wal
terboro meeting and see to it
that the record she made is not
lowered. W> want V> hav« at
this coming meeting more men
and women from Hampton
county than will go from any
other rounty in the entire sec
tion except Jasper. W'e can do
It. We must. Our call is go
ing out to the men of Hampton
county who are able to recog
nize the fact that this section of
the Stgte is not developed like

work to be done for this section
of the State. Our lower coun
ties must be placed on a par
with those in other sections of
the State and a leadership is
needed in this fight for develop
ment. We must not prove un
true to the task l*efore us. Men
of Hampton county, are you In
terested In having this county as
highly developed as such coun
ties as Marlboro, whose fame is
even greater than the State? If
so now Is the time to do things
that will bring this about. We
urge you to attend this meet
ing tt Ridgeland Friday, the
'19th of this month. You rec
ognize your need. You talk
about Improved conditions.

presence help out a movement
that will be worth much to you

Mrs. Thompson was in mnny re
spects a remarkable woman. She
was married to Mr. Thompson, who
was a graduate of Edinburgh Uni
versity. he being a native of Dundee.
Scotland. After their marriage they
returned to Scotland and resided
for four year*. 1867 to 1871. Find
ing that Mr*. Thompson did not rel
ish the customs of tbe people of, the
country. Mr. Thompbon returned to
the United State* and located at Wil-
liston, where for many years he
practieed- law. and took a leading
part in the affairs of hi* community
and State.
Mrs. Thompson la not dead but
lives again in her ehildren, all of
whom are doing well, and are taking
their places as progressive and up.

children. was Lieut. Willis of the
United States Aviatio ncorps. who
made a recent flight In Mexico and
was lost for several days. A good
woman has gone to her reward.
Mrs. M. P. Hlott, '
Mrs. M. P. Hlott, the widow of
the fate M. P. Hiott, who for many
years was probate Judge of Colleton
county died at the home of her sis
ter. Mrs. A. C. Beach, near town,
Friday. Mrs. Hlott was in her 84th
year, and had been in failing health
for sometime of diseases incident to
one who had reached her advanced
age. The funeral took place Satur
day morning, being conducted by
Rev. Cba*. B. Smith, pastor of the
local Methodist church, With Inter
ment following at Live Oak <'eme-
tery.
The deceased is survived by two
sons. P. P. and A. P. Hlott, of the
Sandy Dam section, and one sister,

day afternoon at J Sullivan's Ferry.
About fifty young people, besides
visitors and chaperones were pres
ent.
At six o'clock tea was ready. The
young folks who. up until this time,
had been pleasantly passing away
the time, bpat riding and walking
through the wood*, were Invited to
partake of a delightful repast. Each
did full justice to the bountiful sup
ply 'of fish, which Mr J. C. Miller
was so kind in providing.
Mi*s Carrie Willis, of Greenwood,
Fla., who gave up her place as teach
er in the graded school here on ac
count of her health. Is visiting at
the home of her uncle, Mr. B. H.
Willi* greatly improved in health,
much to the delight of her many
friends here.
