It ha? been definitely made known
that the Southern Carolina A*eocia-
tion will arrange to hare an exhibit
at the annual StrA* Fair this year,
representative of the section covered
'by the Southern Carolina' Associa
tion. A campaign will be waged in
an effort to have this exhibit surpass
anything that has ever before been
seen>in the State Fair. It is pro
posed that N the exhibit shall cover
first of all those things relative to
the agricultural side of our sectior.
An important place, however, will b-
given for the exhibits, showing the
’‘.anufacturing Interests, together
with figures and statistics showing
the hoalthfulness of the section.
The farmers of fhe section which
comprise Hampton. Jasper. Beaufort
and Colleton counties, are being ask
ed to co-operate with those making
these arrangements by having photo-

The Board of Directors of the
S)Uthern Carolina Association met
Thursday evening at Ridgeland and
tranasted much business of interest
to the newly organlred association.
It, was decided to go ahead with the
organisation, and to secure at the
earliest possible moment a sufficient
number of pledges^for the support
of the work to insure its success.
Accordingly the secretary, was in
structed to prepare and have printed
blank subscription blanks, calling
for pledges to carry on this work.

OLD RESIDENCE BURNED
Smoaks, May 9.—The old ^.resi-
desce of the late Wylie Smoak was
burned - Sunday afternoon. The home

These mills have been sold and re
sold, and have finally been purchas
ed by J. P. Yount, of Newton, N. O.,
or rather the final legal proceedings
will be concluded at the sale of the
property by Special Master D. B.
Gilliland at the Court House May 23.

pufely formal In order to satisfy the
legal requirements.
After overhauling the machinery
of the mill, and removing the looms
therefrom, several car loads*of new
machinery has been installed, or Is

completed the mill will b** converted
into a yarn mill, and for the p-es-
ent the product will he “tO’s 2 ply
yarn.” Not only will the product of
the^/nlll be changed, bt^t the name
has undergone a change, and it will
he kftown as the Yotint Cotton Mills

a son of the owner, and a young man
of experience and business ability.

Monday evening. The attendance of
nhemberg and others was most grati-

to be a success. Mrs. B. O. Price,
the president of the league, presided,
and .dispatched the business of the
meeting with ease. An Interesting
program had been arranged for this
meeting, and this was enjoyed,by all
present. The league is alive to the
work if has to do in the town, and
is- especially active just now in se-
cuYing a clean city. Several matters
of interest to the town were taken up
and discussed at the meeting Mon
day evening. --

An awful tragedy occurred at the
home of Richard Bazzel. about four
miles from Walterboro. earlv Tues
day morning when hi 8 little son
Laurie keven years old* waa shot and
killed by bis brother. Willie, nine
J-eara old. It seem* that the father
and mother had arisen early and had
F*ten breakfast, going to the field to
work, the father plowing and the
toother hoeing. The two boys were
le*ft at home to eat breakfast when
they awoke. About 8 o'clock the
mother, who was near the house,
heard the ropoM of a gun at the
house. Bushing to the house she saw
the eldest boy placing his father’s
gun back into the rack. When he
saw his mother he ran to her crvlng:
"Little Brother is killed.” The lit
tle fellow was- standing in a chair at
the window and his brother came in
with the gun.- and as he claims, was
trying to unhreach it when it went
off. the load entering behind the
right ear, tearing off the entire back
part of the head. The father came
in and turned the boy on his back,
but life was extinct.
Magistrate T. J.- Beeves Impanel
led a Jury, who after viewing the
body r\j»dere*l the following verdict:
• We fin,| that Laurie (lassie came to
his death by gunshot at the hands of
his brother. Willie Razzle. and that
the shooting was accidental.”
