years E. T. II.' Shaffer, the pro
prietor of Terry ft Shaffer, has been

on his Main street property, and the

The proposed structure will tx* more
pretentious than any of .these and
will take the place of the store now.
Occupied by Terry ft Shaffer, and
will complete a solid block of brick
fijores on that side-of Main street.
The removal of the Terry ft Shai-
fer store will remove one of the
landamrks of the town.. An old
plat of Walterboro shows'thls as au
old Indian trading shop, which later
was occupied by Warner and then
by J. K. Terry, who had associated
with him his son-in-law. A. C. Shaf
fer, the father of the. present owner.
This was forty years ago. and the
firm bought out the Warner store,
which had been conducted for a num-o,
ber of years previous to this time.
The n*w- firm conducted a store In
this butldina till 1884,.when In the
great firp'wbl'Ji swept away the up
per portion of Walterboro'the store
was burned. It .<wns . fnlmediately
