soon be heard in Walterboro. and
th«> smell of brick and motar will
perjnealo the air. This time it will
be the traction of a brick ■tore
room for the old and well* knqwn
firm of*Terry A Shaffer, and the re
moval thereby of one of the land
marks of the town. For several
years ,H. T. II. Shaffer, the pro
prietor of Terry & Shaffer, has been
buildings occupied by Beech Bros.,
on his Main street property, and the
building occupied ' by Beach Bros.,

will complete a solid block of brick
stores on that side of Main street.
The removal of the Terry ft Shat
ter store will remove one of the
landamrks of the town. An obi
plat of Walterboro show's' this aa au
old Indian trading shop, which later
was occupied by Warner^and then
by J. K. Terry, who had associated
with him his son-in-law. A. C. Shaf-"
fer,'the father of the present owper.
Thla was forty years ago. and the
firm bought out . the Warner store. *
which had been conducted for a num
ber of yyann previous to Ibis Ohm.
The new flrir. conducted a store In
this building till 1884. when In the
great fire which swept a .cay I7ie up
per portion of W.ilterborb the store
was burned. - It was immediately
