There are being organised here ind there lew en (orcement leagnec, having for their purpose the enforcement of the lawv. especially those in regard to the illi cit sale of alcoholic beverages. The going “dry** of the State^has given rice to'much of this thought, and it Is true that there may be more need of these law enforcement leagues to prevgnt the illicit sa)e of liquor, and if that can be successfully prevented then many of the other violations of |law will be prevented, for at least »•) per cent of the crimes of this country are committed by men under the in fluence of liquor. We are reproducing in.full in this irsue the annual message of Gover nor Manning to the General Assem bly w hich began its scss.lon* yester day. This message is an able and thoughtful presentation of the need* of thv people of the State at this time, and In it the Governor deals in a progressive manner with some of the problems needing legislative attention. His message .is a calm discussion of the needs-of the people, without biafc or excitement, and will we feel sure, be classed ns one of th.» best and most -corrservatrve messages sent to the Cenerrl Assembly in a long while. We ask that the rend-' ers of The Press and Standard care fully read every line of this mes sage and ponder its recommenda tions. It is a strong message.
