Kid Haynes shot and killed Gussie Jones, using a t 38- calibre pistol for the purpose. Prom what could b* learned, Haynes bad been haying things bis say for a while and bad been run out, or thrown out of Levy Folk s house, after Laving been asked to re main quiet. He then proceeded to cut a swbll around the other negroes at the dance. »It geeme that. Gusiie Jones had interfered with him in some way and they engaged in a quarrel. Some say that Jones pro ceeded home and returned with a shot gan, coming back, be fired the gun into- the air and as it seems, lost one of the shells and was down on the ground looking for it when Havnes fired upon him twice, one ball taking effect in the back of his head and the other in his jghroat. Both parties are colored. Immediately after the shooting oc curred. Chief of Police A. A. Patter son. Jr., and Assistant Chief, Chris topher Hoats went to the scene of the murder and arrested Haynes, lodging him in jail here.
