ion Wednesday, one of the most prom
inent figures in Wafierboro is re-
mo\ed, and an attorney who reached
the height of the profession is call-,
ed to his-* reward. Mr. Tracy, after
an Illness of several years. c(ied at
.his home here Wednesday and hfs re
mains .were buried Thursday at Live
flak cemetery, in th® presence of ^
large crowd of friends. Funeral
services were conducted at the Kpis-
copal church, of which Mr. Tracy
was.a member, by his pastor. Rev.
Mr. Schroeter, assisted by Rev" T. T.
Walsh. Mr Tracy Is survived
by his sister, Mrs. Bartless an l
two daughters. Mrs. Jos. W. Lu

Mr. Tracy was bora at Graham-
ville. S. (’.. in 18ott, He received
his early education at the High'
school In Winnsboro. and his college
education at Washington and Lee
where he graduated in 1873 when
onv 17 years of age. He read law
with his uncle. Col. Carlos Tracy of
AValtetboro and was admitted to the
bar in 1875, Iwdng at that time the
voungest man ever admitted to the
practice of law in South Carolina,

through the stirring days of 1878
with great credit to himself. He

and thought to the fair, and as ho
expects to have his hands full of
other things this fall, to give the
same* amount of time to the duties
of his office he asked -to be relieved.
This the committee reluctantly de
cided to do. and Mf. Taylor - was
chosen t^ succeed him.
In selecting *Mr, Taylor as presi
dent the commltee felt that no bet-

He has had several years experience
first as superihtendent and then a p
director of the fair association, and

ning through Friday. The first dav

may be had for the schools of the
cwunty. Wednesday will be Home
Coming Hay and «4| Invftation will b®
extended to every former' citizen of
this county.to return for a visit and
reunion at the fair. Farmers Day
will be Thursday, and every farmer
in the county will be urged to be

day arrangements will he made for

It appears from the reports that
•the former cashier was induced to
advance certain sums of money to
another ritizen of Lodge for him to.
use In speculation, and that he was
to share in the profits of his schemes
with Mr Gpoche. This the other
citizen did not do. and the cashier
tried to cover up his shortage hy
false entries in his hooks, and this
was so cleverly done that it escaped
the State Bank Examiner who in
spected this hank about a rtionth*
ago. except as to , few. minor Irregu
larities, which he^as'ced to be Inves
tigated. this leading up to the check
ing up by experts. The expert ac
countant* had to go back to the be
ginning of the bank and check item
by Item from then on.
It is not thought that there will
b®-any prosecution *T>y th® officials
of the hank %fr. Goo* ii® has resign
ed and his place is being., filled now
by/t’yril Fox, who w, s assfsfh'U
tangled until th* decision oMlie su-
prenj® court.
Last summer Messrs. Ifowejl and
Parler were candidates for the office
of superintendent '■of education.
According to the official coftnt thn
latter -was nominated hy a small ma-
joritv. Mr. Howell filed a notice of
protests claiming Hiat the voting at
the Dorchester precinct, in Summer
ville. was not conducted properly.
The cogntv^executive committee dis
missed the protest, but an appeal to
the State committee resulted In a
reversal of the decision of the coun
ty committee, and Mr. Howell wan
declared the notutnew
The matter wan then carried to
the courts. Judge Mauldin decided
-Mr. Parler had" been nominated,
w hereupon the qther side appealed.
Before* the supreme courts passed
unon the ouestlon. the general elec
tion was held, and both <sasplrantn
were voted for in that election. Mr.
Parler. according to official count,
declared elected.
Mr. Howell filed affidavits with
