In Greearllle. for at the time the ar
rest caused no little seasatiqp in this
section. Ratcliff was apprehended
at a boarding house near Brandon
mill, having been located by W. H.
Howard, the deputy sheriff-at Wood-
side mill. He had acted in a suspi
cious manner-and this combined with
the fact that be had a fairly largo
amount of money on deposit at a lo
cal bank caused the officers to In
vestigate. ; / ..
It was first reported that he had
118.000 on deposit but this mistake
was due to a misreading of Ratcliff's
bank book which only accounted for
