During the early part of the month local showers over large areas to the eastward of the Missis sippi greatly improved the outlook, and (he early planted crop was near ly everywhere reported as in good condition. West of the Mississippi, however, no rain o.curred over the greatest part of the cotton growing portions of Texas and the late plsnt- / ed Inr that state was suffering for moisture. Boll weevil were re ported in several sections as increas- l*g. Toward the middle of the month f generous showers over the Eastern States greatly favored growth and the planted area was generally re- ported, as being In good condition. In the central portions of the belt local rains greatly benefited the crop in Arkansas and Louisiana and in parts of Mississippi, but rain was badly needed in Mississippi as well as in Tennessee. In Texas and Oklahoma but little rain fell and the h>11 was then becoming very dry, the early planted cotton was report ed as doing well, however, but the or rain. During the latter part of . the month widely distributed showers t with moderate temperatures and the usual anrount of sunshine, greatly improved conditions of cotton over all eastern and most central districts and the prospects continued good. In the western part of the belt no rain fell in Texas and only small amounts in Oklahoma and Arkan sas. High temperatures prevailed during much of thb time and late planted cotton was suffbring severe- y.
