o UNION SERVICE AT HENDERSONVILLE Doctor’s Creek News. X Colleton Baptist Association at That Place Saturday and Sunday, May 30*31. V . • ^ The union of the second division . of the Colleton Baptist Association met with ike Hendersonville church Saturday and^Sunday, May 30-31. A cordial welcome was extended to all who attended. A splendid din ner was served picnic style. The in troductory sermon was preached by Rev. F. O. 8. Curtis. Discussion of queries was next on the program. Here we wish to congratulate Rev. Mr. Lawson op the excellent program, but we were sorry that he was not present. It was sukfested by Mrs. G. A. Martin that if thought by the union that it would be a good idea to con solidate with the Woman!* Mission ary Society, as it would creale more interest. Then a general discusson was had. All seemed to favor the joint meetings, provided that some system could be legislated for one not to conflict with the other. On motion of Rev. F. O. 8. Curtis the following was enacted: That a committee of three from both the Union and the Woman’s Missionary Society take Into consideration the advisabilty of consolidating the two bodies ahd make a report to the Union which is to be held with the Carter’s Ford church in August. The following were appointed from the Union: Rev. F. O. S. Cur- tifj, Rev. G. A. Martin and Rev. H. 3! (Sivens; from the Woman’s Mis sionary Society: Mrs. F. O. S. Cur tis, Mrs. G. A. Martin and Mrs. H. J. Givens. If this committee deems it advisable to consolidate the two bodies, it seems very probable that it will require Friday and Saturday, in order that the women have one day for their work in general. On account of the absence of Rev. J. C. Collum, who was under ap pointment to preach the .'iissionarv sermon, Rev. G. A. Marti.i deliver ed a splendid sermon. A good collection was raised for st; ' missions. In behalf of the Union all pas tors who received apponitments on the program by the program con-j mittee. Rev. .1. C. i.\... :i and I C. He was honored with the title of Fellow of the Royal Society. * At various times he occupied the chair of chemistry in the Univer sity of Texas, Tulane University. Jefferson Medical College and the University of Virginia, occupying the latter position for nearly forty years. Testifying as an expert before the Federal Court, Mr. Mallet discuss ed the caffeine containing Beverages 'coffee, tear % Coca-Cola. etc.i and stated that his analysis showed that Coca-Cola contains less caffeine than either tea or coffee as ordinarily prepared. He stated further tnat the use of caffeine or beverages con taining caffeine in moderation, is not only not harmful but absolutely beneficial. Dr. MaRet explained why caffeine was not a habit form ing substance and gave the follow ing definition: ”1 think that the habit formed must be a detrimental one and an injurious one, and in the second place, one which becomes so firmly fixed upon a per-.wu acquiring it that it is thrown off with great difficulty and with considerable suf-|^’ y unsightly by scaly patches or ugly pimples.
