In the New York times. March 8. appeared a lengthy^ article Itased on a state ment by Dr. T. D. Wood of Colum bia University, chairman of the ed ucation committee After describing the organisation of the committee and the work it has undertaken. Dr. Wood said: "We grew up with the notion that school children in the (-•untry were? bound- to be much healthier than the children of the cities. Our narents always credited the little r»d schotil house for their excellent constitutions. Of late years, how ever. there has been a good deal of suspicion -cast on that aantf*’*little "ed school house. We have begun n this day of sanitation and medl- ♦ fil infection to have our doubts 1 bent those unqualified benefits. Or. Frequently the onlv provisions for cleanliness are a pall of water, a dirty basin and a com mon , towel. Drinking arrange ments are bad and drinking water often contaminated.
