The above synopsis gi»on recently j
by tlie interstate commerce 'confmfs- |
sion in the matter of the issuance of ‘
the mUdage books in South Carolina,
explains in brief the decision of the
commission of> this subject. It will be
reineinbered that several important
hearings were had .In South’Carolina,
and one or two in Washington .last
winter to determine whether or not
railroads operathig in South Carolina
were not practicing diacriminwtion in
selling mileage hooka, one form be
ing good only w Mb in the state, and
the other, the regular interchaageabla
kind, requiring ah exchange at a tick
et office window before a ticket could
be had for transportation. These
heerings were attended by a big array
of counsel and by many wltneeses and
covered several months’ time. ^The
decision which has been expected
since last winter came recently.
After declaring that-the Commission
has absolutely nothing whatever to
do with the selling of mileage books
for use wholly wfrhln the state of
8011th Oarotina. that being a question
over f hich the commission has no
Jurisdiction, and after reviewing the
kJatory of the mileage book question
throuoghout the country and giving
an outline of the acCof the 8011th Car
olina legislature when In 1912. it pass

the qpiqlon in part given by Commis
