the farmers of South Carolina are
urged to plant oats this fall, because
of the shortage of the corn crop.
We hope that the readers of thir pa
per will carefully consider the
message which Mr. Long presents.
We are sure that no one Is in better
position to speak along'tbia line than
Mr. Long, and that it will be to the
interest of the Cotyeton County far
mers at least to follow the advice con
tained therein.
This year when*Colleton Count}
has u good crop of cotton which is
bringing an excellent price, the* far
mers are prone to lose sight of the
value of grain crops. There .s no
question but that the corn crop this
year will be much reduced in yield
and it is feared that Colleton County
will have to purchase in tin* markets
of the world a large supply of corn,
unless Colleton farmers realize tie
needs of the hour and plaul a large
amount of oats and other grain and
forage crops to tide them over the
high prices in corn which evidently
most be in store' for us next summer
At least this question is worth con
slderation by every farmer and we
sincerely trust that all will read it
carefully and, in a measure, heed its
warnings. *
