In the past few years Ehrhardt has
made great progress in several
ways. She has made npid strides in
growth numerically and financially.
This growth has come about without
any special effort by any body. What
then would be the result, if all the
business men would make special
efforts to have a better Ehrhardt?
Mr. Jefferies. Editor of The Press
and Standard, has seen fit to give a
page in his paper for the Ehrhardt
news and advertising. This partly
fills a great need loqg felt by the
wide-awake ni**r<hant. This will give
every ni**rchan» an opportunity to ad
vertise, his business in a widely read
paper.
The merchants in the smaller
towns seem not to realize the im
portance of advertising. They remain
idle and inactive in that respect, and
thereby lose an Aiormous amount
of trade, which goes to the city, when
if they would advertise it would bring
the business to them, .^ow Mr Mer
chant wake up and take advantage of
this opportunity, enlarge your busi
ness and have a better Ehrhardt.
Mr. Law tom Bishop..
On the evening of the 12th
July, the Death Angel visited our
town claimed one of the oldest
and best citizens. Mr Lawton Bishop.
The end was not expected as he had
been sick for several weeks,' his
death being expected at any time.
Uncle Lawton, as he was usually
called, was a man of high ideals and
a noble character. He was a strong
member of the Lutheran church, a
devoted Christ .an and a true citi
zen, standing always for that which
was right and that *'hich would be
for the best of the church and com
munity’. He lived with us for about
sixty-five years doing the will of God
as best a m a Arran with his many
weaknessea His life will live In our
minds and hearts for many years to

Fighting BoU Weevil.
Atlanta, Ga.. July 22.—Farmers
in Western Alabama and Mississi
ppi are making a determined and
winning fight against the boll weevil
and are being given support by busi
ness men, declares Mr. T. O. Plunkett
Manager of the Department of Farm
Improvement Work of the Southern
Railway and affiliated lines, who in
company with Mr. J. C. Williams,
Assistant to President Finley, has
just completed an inspection of farm
Conditions along the Southern Rail
way, the Mobile and Ohio Railroad,
and the Alabama Great Southern
Railroad in this territory.

any excitment or the slightest sign of
panic but every one ia In line deter
mined to produce cotton under boll
weevil conditions. Thousands of
adult weevil were destroyed while
the cotton was small and where they
escaped farmers are now destroying
infected squares. On every hand we
found appreciation of the efficient
services of the agents of our depart
ment and farmers are generally heed-
f 'ing their advice in fighting the^veevil.
I have been in close touch with the
boll weevil since 1990 and I believe
that farmers in this territory have
heeded the warning given them and
will not suffer as did farmers fuf-
ther west." r
"Farmers who have adopted the
methods advocated by our agents are
expecting increased yields in spite of
the weevil, add with the determined
fight now being waged. I see no rea
son why the general yield in this
great section should not be normal,
though individual farmers who have
refused to take the advice of ex
perts are sure to lose heavily.”
