There ia Important Work for All. W« *rc prone to think the things we are most interested in are of moat Importance. This is well illustrated by the statements of many writers on agricultural problems at the present time. Some, knowing that the aver- age yield of cotton per acre, for the whole Cotton Belt, la leaa than 200 pounds of lint, and that the yield of corn la less than twenty bushels per acre, are wisely laying stress on the necessity for increasing our yields per acre. They rightfully contend that no price whitb the consumer can or will pay will yield a profit on such crops. They see plainly the fol ly of the statement that if we produce more we get less, because they under stand It has'rfo.hearing on.the plob- lems'of the'ir.dividual farmer. Th*y depreciate over-product.on of any one crop, but they know that the in creasing of the yielding powers of the acre means not more of any on^ crop, but more of all croT.s. on less acres, and surely greater prof's. The individual farmer knows that if h. produces the cotton which he no*-- grows on twenty acres by cultivati:: : only ten acres, his profits will be in creased, because his cotton will be produced at less cost and has half tats land for other crops. ‘ H** also knows that «=o lone as h“ produce* <* than 200 pound! of lint cotton and twenty bushels of corn per acre, the problems of production are of vital importance and very far iroai being solved. We are now awakening to a fuller appreciation of another and an equal ly important side oT the farming business, and in the first lull realiza tion of the extent to which wp have neglected this field of our business, it la but natural that those who are giving it most consideration in their earnestness sometmes belittle the im portance of the unsolved problems of prodacton. We say, it Is tut na tural; but it is not wise. •'ftetter marketing, better businees methods and better living are equally im portant with better and more^eco nomical production, but not more so, because on more economic! proditc- -lion must the others succeed. We meet produce more per acre cr all onr efforts at better marketing and better living ahall surely fail, and we must market what we produce to better advantage, or what we pro duce can nfevpr give us the proau, necessary for building and maintain ing a better farm life. At no other time in the history >t agriculture has there been such a multiplying of agencies and powerful forces combined in a real, earnest and effective effort for better farm ing and a better farm life. Let us. therefore, avoid anything which will obstruct or lessen the full beneficial efforts of all these forces, working for the solution of all our problpms We want more effort In all lines, alul especially more in some lines, but not less in any.' No man is likely to increase the effects of his own.effect? by belittling those equally, earnest ; workers in other fields. The prob lems of modern agriculture are many and varied, and many and varied must be the agencies which have bee.) most neglected in the past should now receive most attention; but th* r^ is much, very much, yet to be done in ail lines and the solution of rv.- f> will aid in the solution of all othere. —Th- 1 Progressive Farmer.
