the water fully dresseij. to the assis
tance of the girl. Hardly had he
struck the water, when some other
person with presence of mind to real
ise the gravity of the situation, also
dived over. Mr. Kills proved to be an
excellent swimmer, and the assistance
of the second life-saver was not re
quired.
Almost before the crowd realized
what had happened the girl was being
helped from the water to the wharf,
and soon stood in safety, little the
worse for the experience.

came hysterical while her daughter
was in the water, and requ red
treatment as soon as the rescue had
been accomplished. The girl and her
mother were taken in charge by Su
perintendent Puller, who saw to it
that every provision was made for
their < unitor* ,
Among those who were eye-wit
nesses the acc.dent is deefared to
have been the result of direct and
gross carelessness of a great num
ber of men and hoys, whose eager
ness to accomplish the shift from
ferry to trolley without waiting to
use tht* gangplank.-made them forget
themselves so far as to be careless,
not only of their own safety, but of
that of others. Several people de-
, ciare that Miss Griffin was most rude

liberation. shoved into the water.
