We hear many say: Why the
blind tiger* are with you prohibi
tionists. That is what they want.
We answer: We know it. But we
hope now to let them see that there
are some things that do not mix
Oil and water will not mix; neither
will Christian people and the blind
tiger element. So let thi* be one
time that they will find themselves
on the wrong side, as they will find
that they have helped to dig their
own graves. So let us hurry them.
No law will enforce Itself. If so
ere would used only law-makers.

Bnt with nil our law-makers, courts,
ndgee, prosecuting attorneye, con*
stables, sheriffs, policemen, etc.,
there is not a law on the statute

disposed to violate It. then any prin
ciple, the promulgation and protec
tion of which would promote the
safety and happiness of the general

1 am glad to note that (be people
are becoming aroused on this all-
important question. I for one do not
believe that so many people will ven
ture the risk of selling whiskey when
our honorable lawyers of the Bar re-
-fuae to defend them and they see
punishment staring them in the f^ce.
I feel proud of the offer made by a
prominent member -of this Bar, when
I think of adjoining counties whose
lawyers, or a large majority of them
drink themselves. The attitude of
the lawyers of the local Bar can
greatly promote the cause of tem 1
perance by holding themselves aloof
from the offenders «ib defenders

In justice to myself and to my
friends who honored me with their
•allots in the last campaign, when 1
was elected to the office of magistrate
of Waiterboro, I desire through
your valuable columns to give my
idea on the cause of the existence of
the blind-tigers and to beg the peo
ple of Colleton County not to give
Mr. J. B. Dodd the high honor of
hangman, should a decree be hand
ed down that the sher ff and all the
magistrates be hanged. ' .
I also wish to aay that I am proud
that the people of Colleton County
do not always have to get a decree
from the Court when they, through
mistake, elect an unworthy man to
office (Mr. J. B. Dodd for example)
As I see the law, a magistrate’s duty
is to laaue warrants upon oath of g
citisen and to aee that the warrants
are duly executed -and the guilty
party apprehended and made to feel
the penalty of the law. In my opin
ion. the only thing that is In the
way now Is that some of our citixens
are afraid to swear out n warrant
for the arrest of any blind-tlgar, and
the rent do not want to put him out
of existence.

justice: "I would not act as counsel

left to be Judge. Prosecutor. Jury
and everything elre. which renderr
him as powerless as a lamb in a den
of lions.
Now, frienda I wish to say in cotK
elusion that If some of out prohibi
tionists will just use some of thfelr
valuable time in appearing before a
magistrate and sign a few warrants
for (he arrest of anyone whom they
suspect to be blind-tigers and have
-their places of business searched in
stead of writing lonfc articles in the
paper which does about as much
.good in doing away with the blind-
jpers as pouring water on a duck's
back does when I'ott want to wet it
