1 will try and tell you how I grew
two crops on the same piece of
ground. I have an acre of old land
near my house that has been in culti
vation .for over 40 years, and I have
been putting on this acre each year
for four years from 15 to 20 one-
horse loads of lot manure. Last year
I decided to try to raise two crops
on it, and tbs way I did was as fol-
lows: 1
I flrst broke the land with a 10-
Inch turning plow in December and
sowed oats oa same and harrowed
In. In April I laid off my rows 3 feet
apart with a scooter plow sad ran

see. this made my potatoes in 6-R>ot
rows. o
I now drilled in the fertilizer,
which analyzed. I think. 3 per cent,
nitrogen. 6 per cent, potash and 8
per cent. acid. I put in 700 pounds
of this to the were, which, you see,
equals 1,400 pouni^ in 3-foot rows.
I dropped potatoes in this open
furrow 12 inches apart, and convert
ed them with two furrows to the
row with a turning shovel about 5 U
Inches deep. I covered this way in
order that 1 might run a harrow over
them several times and then still
have plenty of dirt left on them
They were planted April 5. ^
Now', as to the cotton, I bedded up
between the potatoes with four fur
rows with turiring shovel and then
went twice to the row with harrow,
which gave me a good seed bed to
plant on. ", ■
I used 300 pounds of 16 per cent,
acid under this cotton. I planted the
cotton on this bed between the pota
toes, which, you see. made cotton
and potatoes 3 feet apart. As soon
as this cotton showed signs of com
