Green Kills Mother

News has reached here that Mary
Green, a negro woman, killed her
mother, Nancy Green. Tuesday morn
ing at her home at Red Back. From
what can be learned. Mary Green has
been crazy for sometime but not
thought to be dangerous. She is a
rather stout woman, and possessed
of much strength. She evidently be
come angered at her mother and
struck her a terrible blow, crushing
In her skull, and killing tier Instant
ly It is reported that the blow was
severe as to knock out both eyes
completely. The coroner was noti
fied and the woman placed under ar
rest. and is now in Jail.

Mrs. Mary A. Padgett, widow of
the late Josiah Padgett, died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs M. A.
Driggers. Monday Dec. 3!>tlf, in her
SOth year. jfihe funeral was held
at Bedon’s ^rptist church. New
Year’s day. conducted by Rev. J. M.
Craven. There was a large crowd of
relatives and friends assembled to
pay the last tribute to the memory
survived by t^o sons and two daugh
ters: ’Jas. X. Padgett, of Round,
and J. M. Padgett, of Walterboro,
of the deceased. Mrs. Padgett la
two daughters. Mr*. W. F. Hill, and
Mrs. M A. Driggers and also one
brother. .W. H. Sutcliffe.

erect a handsome residence on
Hampton street, on the large lot pur
chased several years ago. Material
is being placed and work will be com
