After the ceremony the guests re
paired to the dining room where de
licious refreshments ■ were served.
Here again the color scheme was
green and white with a touch of holly
suggesting the happy. Christmas
time. The hall was also decorated
with holly, smilax and chrysanthe
mums. . •'
The bride wo-e a dainty
embroidered robe and carele l a bou
quet of ferns and feataerv wfrte
chrysanthemums. The matron of
honor was gowned in blue; silk pop
lin and carried a bouquet of creajgT;
. roses.

H. Williams, and live step-children,

Ilranchville and Mrs. W. E. Dun-
inat, and was buried at the Live Oak ; woody of Arcadia, Fla., aud Mrs. D.
cemetery on the following day. The
funeral services were conducted by
Rev. J. R. Funderbuik. The be
reaved parents and sorrowing friends
have the profound sympathy of the
entire town.

by the Rev. J. R. Funderburk There
was a large crowd, of sorrowing
friends present to witness the inter
ment of ttiis-<.good woman. Mrs.
Thomas was eighty years old and
had been a member of the Baptist
church for sixty-four years. She was
a Miss Stupes before ner marriage
to her late husband, Mr. Phillip
Thomas and was boru and reared in
what is n6w Hampton county. Her
husband died on the 12th of last
December, and the is survived by
one sen, Mr. P. H. Thomas.
^irs. Thomas has gone to that bet
ter home but her inhuence will long
be felt in this county.
Luther N. Yon.
A death which came as a surprise
was that of Luther N. Von. who died
at his home five mites Irom town
Wednesday afternoon or last week,
after an illness of severe; weeks of
typhoid fever. Mr. Von was in the
prime of life, being only about forty
years of age, and wa*; noted for his
induetry and sterling qualities. His
life had been speii - :.i ihe vicinity
-of his lute residence, and he died
possessed of a large raim and con
siderable property.
He. ^was survived :>y his widow
who wvs Miss Hattie Kedish. of
Sneaks, and three smali children,
two girls and a boy. The funeral
services were held at Fieasaut Grove
liaptist church Thursday afternoon,
being conducted by Rev. J. M. Crav
en. A large crowd assembled to pay
this last tribute to their neighbor
and friend.

illness. ^ His mother ..as with him
the last four days. He was conscious
to the last and died easily, just grad
ually sank in a half haur’s time.
Norman was at home to celebrate
his 21st birthday seven weeks before
the end. when he was the picture of
health, a useful boy budding into
manhood. He has been working for
the Southern Express Company ' in
Augusta for about a year. He leaver
father, mother, brothers, sisters, and
friends.
Messrs. J. N. and C. R. Jones, with
families, Messrs. T. D. Jones «"d
Francis La Coste, accompanied the
sad mother homo with her son. He
t laid to rest in Cross Swamp cem

burial testified how we loved him.
He joined the Methodist church when
quite ygung and Las been loyal

A Clive Hit rx, Jr.
Smoaks, Dec. 14.—Special: One
of the saddest deaths which has ever
occurred in this community was that
of A. Clive Hiers, Jr., which occurred
at Columbia Wednesday. He had
been suffering of a lingering disease
for several months, sod finally it was
decided to take him to Columbia to
the hospital, but Tie a.ed just a few
days after having reached there. The
body was brought to Smoaks Thurs
day and the Interment took place
Friday morning at the Baptist
church cemetery In tne presence of
a large concourse of sorrowing rela
tives and friends.
The deceased was the oldest son
of Mr. and Mrs, A. C. Hiers, and bad
just attsined his majority. He was
graduated from the Citadel in June,
at which institution he took a high
stand; both in the literary, and mili
tary branches. He was quite popular
there and made numerous friends.
Young Mr. Hiers was one of the
ghtest young men of the comman-
ity, noted for the brilliancy of its
young men and women, and was
deservedly popular. iie was kind
and considerate, thoughtful of the
Khog and rights of others, thor
oughly conscientious anti cievoted to
duty. Father, moilier, several
brothers and sisters survive him, and
to them tho sincere sympathy of the
entire community goes out.

of Mrs. J. B. Williams, who died
here at 2 o’clock yesterday morning
after an illness of only a few days,
was conducted from the Methodist
church at 11 o’clock this morning,
J. R. Fixer, pastor of the
church officiating, assisted by Rev,
W. 8: Martin, pastor of the Method-
st church. The fhneral was attend
ed v>y a large concourse of sorrowing
friends and relatives. *
Mrs. Williams was Miss Jessie
Whitemore. and was a niece of the
late Dr. Thomas, a noted Baptist di
vine and a former editor of the Bap
tist Courier. As a member of Dr.
Thomaa’ family she reaided in Colum
bia. Orangeburg and other cities in
his Bute and she enjoyed a large
acquaintance. While a resident of
Orangeburg she became the wife of
Dr. F. M. Stokes, of Branchville, sad
sfter Dr. Blokes’ death she married
J. B. Williams of Branchville, about
5 years ago.
Mrs. Williams was an active work-
church worker and In her quiet help
ful way she was a blessing to the en
tire community. As president of the
