The presentment was read by the

Padgett. Esq. The grand jury was

thorough and comprehensive present
ment, and dismissed for the session.
This does not mean, however, that

duties for it is stiil the grand jury

lieved by the swearing in of the
new grand jury at the Spring term

well kept and the books are all neat
and accurate. The reports required
ue all made and recent thorough
exumination by the Comptroller Gen
eral showed the excellent wonditlon
of this office. R. E. Jones is the

ATTORNEY A'ND CLIENT FIGHT.
Col. I>. U. Peurlfoy add E. L. Benton
Come to Blows.
Following a dispute over a case in
which Col. D. B. Peurlfoy represent
ed E. L. Benton, last Thursday, they
came to blows qn court house square.
It appears <hat Col. Peurlfoy repre
sented Mr. Benton in a suit for adul-
try, which case has been continued
for several terms of court. Mr: Ben
ton upbraided Col. Peurlfoy for not
having ended the case, and accused
him of being in, collusion with his
brother. Solicitor Peurlfoy in the
matter. This Col Peurlfoy denied,
and Mr. Benton repeating ms cnarge,
was struciy by Col. Peurlfoy. The
combatants ’ were separated before
either was hurt.
Mayor Ackerman had the case up
for trial Saturday and fined Col Peu-
rifoy $10. Mr. Benton was not fined.

Lake City, Nov« 22-—Special: One
of the most beautiful weddings that
has ever taken place In Lake City
was witnessed Wednesday evening
by s great many frieiitls of the con
tracting parties, when Miss Ruth
Alice Williams, daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. A. H. Williams, of this city and
Edward Duncan Ballinger, of Flor
ence, were united in marriage.
The quaint Methodist church, in
which the ceremony was performed,
had been transformed by clever
handf into a bower of loveliness.

never more beautiful than on this,
bar wedding night, gttlred In an
alaborate gown of Duchesa satin,
trimmed in real lace and pearls aad
with Its draperies caught with whits
orchids, the graceful linen being ac-
cantuated by a lout court train. Her
hi ghotSi beuuty wus enhanced by the
filmy veil, which flowed from a
wreath sf llllitp of the valley. In h«r
arms she bore a huge shower bou
quet of brides roses and Ulllaa of the
valley.
Immediately after the ceremony
the bridal party returned to the home
of Dr. Williams, where the bride
changed her wedding gown for a
stylish travelling suit of midnight
blue, with hat, shoes end gloves to
match. Mr. and Mrs. Ballinger left
on the evening train for Washington
and other points, and upon their re
turn will he at home at Florence.
The bride is the eider daughter
of Dr. and Mrs. A. H. Williams and
has',' by her unusual beauty and at-
'ive manaars, won many friends.
The groom is connected with the
Florence Daily TimOs and is one of
the rising young business men of
that city.

True Bills Found.
The two cases in which convic
tions were secured last week were
Isaac Spell, accused of stealing cot
ton and he was sentenced to 9
months on the chain gang. Frank
Kinsey, convicted of simple assault,
was sentenced to 30 days on the
chain gang or to pay a nne of $50.
Kiler Evans ('leafed.
The Jury were out only a short
while in the case against Kiler Evans,
charged with killing Jack Jllerndon,
returning with a verdict of not guil
ty. Evans sustained his plea of self-
defense in the opinion of the Jury
and he was freed. Padgett. Lemacks
& Moorer defended him; Solicitor
Peurlfoy conducted tne prosecution.

Case.
Calfee-Koger.
Miss Susie Calfee, daughter of the
late J. F. Calfee, and Mrs. Elisabeth
( alfee, was married to Mr. James
Honry Roger, of Walterboro, South
Carolina Wednesday morning at the
->ms of the bride at Pine, in this
county. It was a quiet home wed-
<iing.and the ceremony was perform
ed by'Rev. Carl S. Matthews, of this
city. No Invitations were issued and
only the famfty was m attendance.
The bride received a number of use
ful presents. Mr. and Mrs. Koger
.. ’S this afternoon for Charleston,
’. C., where they will spend a few
days after which they will be at home
at Walterboro.—Pulaski (Va) Rec

Mrs. Koger as Miss Calfse taught
the Koger school last year, and there

Walterborians Lone Money
TFD of Walterboro's citizens were
subjects of the grt of the light fin
gered gentry while attending the
Charleston fair last week. While
on the street car going to hotel Tues
day. John D. Glover bad his purse
stolen. It contained about $4<L in
money and a diamond ring valued
at $125. No clue as to the perpetra
tors could be obtaiMd, though some
suspects were arresued, but Mr. Glov
er could not testify positively that
they werd the correct persons.
S. S. Loper was also relieved of
about $25 in the same manner, but
he had no Idea who got his money.
Frank Folk, of Bamberg, w'was
among thoae in town this week, hav
ing been summoned here as a wit
ness in the Warren-Wilson land trial.
Mr. Folk was formerly a resident of
Colleton and used to be a regular
correspondent for the old Colleton
Press. He came in to see if anj^ of
the old staff were here, but was dis

The court of Common Pleas con
vened last Wednesday for the pur
pose of hearing cases in equity and
on appeal. The court was adjourned

in which the Mayor of Walterboro
was scored for alleged failure to en
force the laws and for the “rotten

The Annual mooting of the stock
holders of the Colleton County Fair
Association was held Friday nt the
offleo of the president, W. R. Gruber,
Esq. There was a large -attendance
of thentockholders and considerably
more then the necessary amount of
stock vas represented either in per
son or by proxy.
Ths report of the secretary and
treasurer showed that tbeff'air Asso
ciation was in good condition, having
cleared several hundred dollars oa
this fair.
