Further considering the question
of at* electric lighting plant for
Walterboro, we are of the op-
talon that the matter can be solved
wary easily and be a source ef
revenue to the town.
Discussing the matter with Mr
Oeutry, who Is superitvendlng the
erection of the Hotel Albert, he
ntade a suggestion which we believe
will be a most economic^ solution
O* the town’s vexing lighting prob
lem. He says that by the installa
tion of arother gasoline engine of
the same capacity as the one now
used for pumping wc-ter that cnoug
power would be secured to generate
* sufficient supply of electricity to
light the town. His Idea Is that
towi* needs another engine hny
way to be used in case of an
dmergency, such as the breaking of
part of the engine now being used.
The two engines being run togeth
er at Kght, till say 11 o'clock,
weuld generate enough electricity
to light not only the streets but
the residences and business houses
of the town.
This phtn we consider, not only
practical but decidedly feasible. Ev
ery cltlsea of Walterboro knows
whit a farce the present town
lighting ayntem Is. and will re
main till an glectrlc plant is in
stalled. This plan furnishes a mesas
not only of better lights for the
town, but for actual saving of cost
revenue which would
I,et the town use
asaetly the methods used in Its
water-works system. Feed wires
could be run along the principal
streets and privilege of using the
power granted residents and others
at stated rates. We are of the
opinion that, properly handled this
could be made a source of reve
nue to the towr-. after paying all
expenses of maintenance and op
eration, besides furnlshli-g llghis
free for town. The matter should
be looked Into, at any rate.
