Aull was elected as^ superintendent of education for New berry couivy to succeed J. S. Whee- er, who recently resigned. The following announcement was made by the beard as to a number of routine matters decided: "The resignation of J. S, Wheeler county superintendent of Newberry, bavii-g been accepted by the gover nor, it beer me the duty, of the State board to fill out the unex- plred term. “An appeal case concerning the location of the new school building at Lexington court house wrs argued by E. L. Asbill, Esq. aid Solicitor G. B. Timmerman. After carefully reviewing the record the board ordered that the action of the Lexington county board of edu cation. be sustc-incd, and the ap peal concerning Airy Springs school district. No. 64, of Anderson coui-tr, was beard rnd in this case also the decision of the county board was sustalued. “The high schools Inspector sub- mitted report for the y.?ar. High school appropriations were fixed for the scholastic yecr 1911-1213, and the secretary was authorized to pay onehalf of the funds at once. Branchville, Dec. 8.—The munici pal election held recently to choose a mayor and aldermen to serve for the next two years, re sulted r-s follows: For mayor W. A. Dukes, defeated S. S. Byrd by a vote of 68 to 49. For aldermer-, the count showed: J. D. Byrd. 25; P. C. Dukes. 70; G. W. Miley, 44;U\ Prtterson. 33; H. D. Steedly, 58; J. A. Buie, 91; J. W. Black. 69; X. C. Jones. 29; B. X. Minus. 70; L. \V.« West- bury, 58; O. W. Smoak, 88; W. C. Steedly, 29; B. F. Smoak, 54. O. W. Smoak, Minus, Black and Buie were elected aldermen, and L. W. Westbury and H. D. Steedly will run over two weeks/hence for the sixth place in the council. - The election pr-seed off quietly and though there was considerable partisanship the rivalry was good natured.' Ten days ago the citizens of Branchville held a mass meeting and adopted strong resolutions de- inatlding Improvements in munici pal affairs. Stricter enforcement of the ordinances, better police pro tection and war on "blind tigers" were among the improvements de manded of the new council. Joe. M. Brown swept the State in the gnbernatorizJ primary today. The counties are* apportioned as follows: J. M. Brown, 94; Pope Brown, 40, and Judge R. B. Russell, 10. The remaining two counties, Macon and Charlton, were tied between Pope Brown, 40, Judge R. Russell 20. 84 counties give Gov. Brown 200 of the 368 electoral votes.
