St. George, Au St. George was visited by* a disas trous fire about 12 o’clock last night when the two-story building on Main street, occupied as a res idence by Col. W. B. Utaey, and the hay atd grain establishment of Mr. 8. L. Johnston were eomplet ly destroyed. WTiat caused the fire is not defi nitely known, but It originated in tbe building in which Col. Utsey liv ed The structure was unoccupied. Col. Utsey’s family- being out of town acd he has not been staying there during their absence. The flames rapidly spread, after having been discovered, and It was Impossible to keep Mr. Johnstons establishment from being consumed Tbe burned section is ic- one of the moet prominent parts of the buslnees district, and had It not ben for prompt assistance on the part of the fire department and citizens ‘ generally other damage would have probably been Incurred. The building occupied by- Col Ut sey was one of the historic land marks locally. It wca known as the "Temperance Hall,” having been built by the Sow of Temperance more than half a century ago. The heirs of James George, from whom the property wc-3 purchased and for whom the town of St. George was named, began a suit for the re covery of the property because of some stipulation in the deed of con veyance, which had not been com plied with, and the matter is now in the Supreme Court. VOTK8 FOR ADDITIONAL LEVY. By a Vote of A5 to 7, Cotiageville School District Votes le-vy. At an election held last week at Cottageviile to decide whether or nA the electors wished to increase the levy for school purposes, the vote stood at the count, thirty-five for to seven against. Thus it is that the citizens of this prosperous com munity have shown themselves cap able of deciding what is best for their school and community. The levy was already three mills, r-'id the four additional makes it sever*. With this school will be able »o go forward in the large way the trustees have mapped out.
