MORE ANON Negro Sent U» Jail. Junior Jennings, a negrj, was brought to jail yesterday morning by .Chief-of-Pollce E. D. Smoak, of , Lodge. This negro is charged with breaking open a trunk and taking $28, the trunk and money belonging to another negro by the name of Lewis Kennedy of Caldwell's. The preliminary was held by Magistrate H A. Cummings and Jennings ad- , milted taking the money from the trunk, hut claims that Kennedy sold him whiskey which made him drunk otherwise he would not have taken | the money. WILL BE GIVEN JULY 18 CR It Prise Drills and Shooting Matches For Valuable Prize* to Be a Feature of Use Day. < At * a meeting of the Heyward Ri flemen beld at the Armory Thursday evening, it was decided by tbe com pany to give a picnic at Ivanhoe on the 18th or 19th of Jul>\ At the picnic, it is proposed to have quite a day of it; consisting of prize drills, target shooting, etc., and valuable prizes will be given to the best drilled man. the best marksman etc. Several addresses will be made on that day. and it is proposed to make the day quite notable one in the history of the company. Adjuant General Moore has de cided that there will be no annual encampment this year because of the lack of State funds; and this picnic Is to supply somewhat the loss of that Arent. The public are cordially Invited to come and bring their baskets. Recently there has been added to »he armory individual lockers for each member of the company*. These ba kers are fixed so that each mem ber may keep his uniform and equip ment therein, have access to it him self, and at the same time, other members of rompsny cannot gain access thereto. W<hiuuT* Mi**lonnry Union Meets The Woman's Missionary Union Auxiliary to the Colleton Baptist Association held a very interesting meeting with the Zion Baptist church, June 24-25. Saturday Morning -Devotional ex ercises, conducted by Mrs. G. A. Martin, vice president, who presided over the meeting in the absence of tbe president. An account of the work of some of our missionaries in CJiina, as given in six short letters, were read by different members of the un ion which were enjoyed very much by all. After enjoying a bountiful dinner, we again assembled In the church and gave our attention to a very Interesting paper which was read by a "Sunbeam".
