Take poetry as an intsance. It is claimed by those who it would seem are well quallfi- t * «*d to Judge, that "theae United States of North America" have no poetic future being too much ab- «>rbed in material affairs. A recent writer in one of the great monthlies fakes a different and much more favorable view of the matter. It Is the old story of King Lear’s daughters vying with each other to reduce father’s retinue—"What need of 'flve-and-twenty, or ten, or even five?” Hence it comes that oftentimes we are "confronted by those who have to deal with us and that when they have made known their business they then "sail away”. They have no time for the courtesies. Hence it comes the most a'orthy and., perhaps gifted people ate ignored and slighted, simply and sc'c’.v because the practiced, and “intenesly practical" eye can desert: no special use for them at that conjuncture; (whenever It does be sure they will be “taken up"> Hence it comes that children flirt in and flirt out with no sign of respect to their elders and with no j recognition of the stranger's pres ence.
