CLKMNUN.WINTHIIOP TRAl.f Tha visit of the Clemaon-WIn- tbrop train to Walterboro Saturday, was one of the most important svsnta that have taken place In gaits a while this county. From aa educational and Instructive stand paint, there la nothing which could have excelled It. Not only were those who attended the exhibition Informed through the ear, but theyv were taught through the eye, and this Is a combination which teaches lessons not easily forgotten, •f the work being done by this Toe touch cannot be said in praise of this train. The members of • Ud party deserve great credit for their willingness to give up their plaaaant summer vacation and live ea the hot and dusty train for ■ore than two months, being aub- to the Inconveniences of travel, lie railroads of the State also de serve special thanka for their part In the train. They furnish all cam. engines and crews, and pay all op erating expenses abaolutely> free. The result of this work Is obltmd to be of great value to the people <>f the rural districts of the State. But, the people are not appreciat ing this work as they should. The attendance Saturday, while It was pretty good, was not one-tenth wha it should have been. Perhaps 200 farmers aaw the train and heard the lectures, but there should have been at least 2,000. There Is no rubbing ouC the fact that Colleton county is not aa progressive as she should b' In an agricultural way and she will not be till her farm ers know how to farm better. They will not know how either till they are taught by such agencies as this train and the farmers* insti tutes. How to reach them la the problem. But here and there are farmers who do not neglect an op portunity such aa this, and they will serve as the lamp of lea von We aie very glad to know "that oli.* flget on the Mind tiger situa tion In Colleton county la attracting the attention of many throughout the cMint}. We desire 'to ask the aid of the pood people everywhere in the work wo have undertaken in iry’Ug to drive out this ttndee*r„ able and dangerous animal. We do not like any kind of tiger and we ti *• .'ally hate the variety that mis defective it Un. Every ^>sl cltisens of the county should have a similar feeling in the matter, we are sure they all have. Now, are unt the good titikena of the coun ty a majority? Are they willing to allow a few dishonest and Illicit dealers in blood money to bring re proach upon cur good name, and blacken the reputation of our coun ty .* Another thing Is true: No bliiu! Mger c-xiats anywhere In this county i u* that his presence is j know a tv the good citizens Of the community in which he plies his trade. Now, Vr. Good Citizen, are c» * you a True Citizen when you ait down ai.d .allow this animal to sell hir goods in your community, and under your nose? s If the plans we have on foot go through we hope to Inform our roaderr. In the near future what officera of the county have paid thei.- Piense tax to the United States government for the privilege of sel.lug intoxicating beverages. V»> v HI then see if there wiiUpot v le something doing. We surmise that when this list Is published, the mask of respectability will fall from the faces of aome of our ‘cltlxena, and the possession of a revenue li cense is prtma facte evidence that the party possessing it Is engaged >n the Illicit sale of liquor. When those names are known It will then be up to *he good cltisens of their r. % *i»e<-tlve communities to get to gether and furnish the Solicitor with enough evidence to give Gov- erneor Bleaae na opportunity to t-nrdon the holders. Will you do it Mr. Good Cttisen? Begin now stiffen up your spinal column, aud oat a little sand every now and then so you will not quake when you face the tiger in hit lair. « In the meanwhile we should he pleased to reclve all the Information ai. y ue-rwn has as to the presence of tigers in their communltiee We shall treat this as confidential if '.hoy to dtsire, and will use such parts of 't as we are given permia- T slon to use. Friends, will you join with The Press and Standard in Its great fight for a tigdrless county? Let us Improve our moral tone, and make this a better county in which our children may have their homes.
