„ Winthrop College Notes.
Winthrop College, April 29.—
Special: Tlsa event which is always
looked forward to with the greatest
pleasure by Seniors and Juniors took
place on Monday night, a week ago.
This great event, the Junior Recept
ion, was thought to be the beat that
we have had in many years. It
was no doubt, more thoroughly en
joyed this year on account of its un.
queness.
At half-past eight, we. the Seniors
were led to fairyland by our Jun
ior partners. We sent first to one
or two little springs, from which
w.e received the most delightful
punch. Next wp were shown by
fUttlng little fairies to seats prepar
ed or us. Here we heard sweet mu
sic for sometime and then it stop
ped and we were entertained by a
fairy comedy. Two mortals were in
the comedy and afforded much a-
musement.
From here we were conducted to
the banquet wherewe were served
by faries to delicious fairy refresh
ments; such as Queen Mab aalad
and parfait. After the banquet
there was dancing in which both
fairies and mortals joined. Only
too soon, however, we were called
away from fairyland to dreamland.
Each -of the three literary aoeie-
ties give a play every year. The
last of these plays was given by
the Winthrop Literary Society on
last Monday night. The play giv-j
en waa "Dorothy Vernon". The sue-'
cess. It may be ujdged by thelarge 1
number of persons which were pres
ent. Even standing room in the
gallery was sold. The number at
tending was over eight hundred.
We had with us today several vis-'
Itors from Charlotte. N. C. Twelve
of these visitors were ladies who'
are interested in club work. They
came over to see what we were do
ing in the industrial lines. The'
superintendent of the Charlotte grm4
ed schools was with them. He|
seemed very much pleased with the
work done up here, especially that
which Is done in domestic science.
