Dr. Bradford Knapp is the son of Dr. Seamore A. Knapp of the division of the agricultural de partment . of the government They were entertained in bar racks, before they adjourned they peseed resolutions thanking acting President Riggs and the faculty for their hospitality, and promised to give Clemsoo their hearty support in the future. On Saturday nipht the 25th of February, the' sixth entertain mem on the Lyceum course DWELLIM BURKED. Ike retidmee and one or two out- buildings of B. R. Griffin of the Omega neighborhood wsa destroyed by fire bet Wednesday about noon. One or two feather beds, their orLan, a few chairs and one or two other small articles, represent all that eras nved from the fire. For tunately the barn and stables did not burn, but Mr* Griffin’s smoke house did and all his meat, syrup, etc. were lost. The fire caught from the flue, and was not discovered by Mrs. Griffin till the house was near ’falling in. Her baby was asleep on the bed and she rushed in to save it. and succeeded in getting out one or two beds at the same time. Mr. Griffin was not at home at the time, but fortunately Fuller A. Beach, the R. F. D. carrier, happened up just at this time and rendered great assist ance in saving the few things that could be gotten out. Some of these caught and were burned after being taken out, owing ty the great heat andsparka. No one can fill the vacancy in the homes in which she was cnce tiie sunshine, no one will ever take her place in our broken hearts. It will be a sacred thought in the years to come, to husband parents and friends to know that she shed radiance in the homes as long as she did and it will be a blessed recollection that she grew up to love and be loved by those who ever so tenderly cher ished her sweet and pure memory and her untimely death has de spoiled her home of happiness and heaped upon us a burden of anguish which seems insupport able. The fair flower thus plucked in the freshness of its exquisite bloom is not doomed to wither, but is borne away to take its place in the bouquet that Christ holds, and which will All all Heaven with eternal perfume. Suffer little children to come unto me, is thy welcome voice that will ring like sweet bells of consolation. The eyes that were closed by the angel of night are opened wide again by the shin ing spirit of ressurrection and now look down upon us like stars out of the dark Heavens, wait ing and beckoning to sorrowing husband, brothers, sisters, mama and papa to come up higher. The seventh entertain ment was given by the Festival Quartett Company on Wednes day, March the 1st This com pany is composed of four of the best singers in America, and Clemson was very fortunate in securing them. , On Tuesday February, 28th Dr. R. N. Bracket and Mrs. Bracket entertained the second division of agricultral section number one Junior, at tea. The first division of the Junior agricultural section number one was also entertained on Wednes day night Dr. Weatherford, the traveling secretary of the Y. M. C. A. for the south is carrying on a series of meetings. Dr. Weatherford is a forceful speaker and under stands college men better that any other man in the south. On Thursday night Mar. 2nd, he chose as his subject “The value of an unbroken record.” A large crowd was out to hear him. Capt Stokes, our com- mendant kindly gave us an hour on Friday, in order that the boys might attend Dr. Weatherford’s lecture in Chapel. Nearly every one was out He spoke again that night and to night (Satur day) to men only. To morrow he will occupy the pulpit at the regular morning sirvee. Mr. Gasque, the assistant to the commandant has resigned, it is not known yet who will take his place. / . Baseball and rack athletics are progressingnticely.
