Junction, happened to a moat painful but pariiapa not serious accident The writer in conversation with Mr. Smoak obtained the following statement Mr. Smoak, lays J^ter the de parture at the freight train he closed the depot and started to walk off of the‘platform and ‘ on a defective plank in the ffoor and fell, badly fractur ing hie right leg, juat above hit ahoe top. and it aeema at thia time to be no better. Since the accident Mr. Smoak haa been forced to give top hia work. L C. McKenaie is acting in Mr. Smoak’• place. Dr. E. P. Carter of Ashton is attending Mr. Smoak, and says Mr. Smoak’a leg is in a critical condition being badly fractured. He is unable at thia time to fore tell the future result. • The cause of Mr. Smoak’s critical condition is a defective floor around and in the interior of the depot There being sev eral large openings in the depot and platform. Though in a critical condition, we hope to see Mr. Smoak again at his work, j J. C. Murchison Superintendent of the Charleston division of A. C. L. R. R. in company with W. C. Mauldin, President of H.’& B. R. U. paid Smoaks a short visit Friday last. H. Ehrhardt, who has for Several * 1 months closed his busi ness at H. & R Junction is now repairing, and wi l soon begin work at this place again. ," W. H. Hi era vis in Walterboro this week on business. Miss Janie Crosby who spent the holidays at home with her parents' Mr. and Mrs. J. W Crosby returned to her work at Parkers Ferry Monday. • Dr. E. P. Carter of Ashton is erecting a large store and dwell ing combined at H. & B. Junc tion, and this will no doubt add much to the appearance of ^this little place. Miss Lizzie Crosby who spent Christmas in this section with her parents will return to her home in Charlestcn the latter part of this week. Miss Edna Chitty who spent Xmas with relatives at Olar, re sumed her duties at Dry Branch Monday. Rev. J. C. Lawson and family of Kelton, S. C. have moved in the Baptist parsonage at this place. Mr. Lawson is Carters Ford’s pastor for another year. We gladly welcome them in. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Bishop and children and Mrs. Joseph Bishop of Ehrhardt spent Saturday at the home of W. H. Hiers.
