The Thayer Lumber Company hux
begun to erect a large manufactur- j
ing plant about two miles beyond |
Walterboro on’ the railroad at a
point known as May’s Switch.
It is the purpose of this company
to construct a large saw mill and i
lumber plant at this place and they I
have begun the work of building, j

WOMAN’S MISSIONARY UNION
MEETS.
Ruffin, Nov. 2f).—The next quart
erly meeting of the Woman’s Mis
sionary Unton Auxiliary to the Col
leton Baptist Association will meet
with the First Baptist church in
Walterboro Dec. 10-11. The socie
ties, and churches where there are no
societies are urged to send delegates.
Mrs. J. R. Fixer of Branchville has
promised to be present. She is an
earnest worker and interesting
speaker. Mrs. Morrall has charge of
the music—and a treat is in store for
those who attended these meetings.
Mrs. W. J. Hatches of Johnson, S.
C. has been invited to speak on
Saturday—and it ia hoped she can
be present,
A full program will appear in the
paper next week.
It is earnestly requested that
every church in the Association be
represented. at this meeting the
second Saturday and Sunday in De
cember.

ADVERTISING MANAGER
W B Porcher of Charleston, has
accepted a position as advertising
manager of The Press and Standard,
and began his duties yesterday.
Mr Porcher is a young man of ex
perience and ability. He is citadel
graduate and has made a special
study of advertsing covering a
period of several years. He will be
pleased to assist adevrtisers in writ
ing copy, and will be glad to have all
partons of The Press and Standard
consult with him as to proposed ad
vertising schemes.
Mr Procher has l>een made chair
man of the advertising committee of
The Commercial Club. He will take
an active interest in all that pertains
to building up Walterboro and a
“New Colleton.”

BOOK KEEPER THAYER LUMBER
COMPANY.
s J M McKenzie, who has for more-
than two years been the efficient and -1
competent depot agent and tele
graph operator at Walterboro, has
resigned His position to accept that
of book-keeper for the Thayer Lum
ber Company.
Mr McKenzie will^enter upon his
new duties as soon as his successor
arrives. The business men of the
county, who have had business here
at the depot, regret to see Mr Mc
Kenzie sever his connection with the
Railroad Company. v It is not known
yet who Mr McKenzie’s successor
will be.
