Whereas, in the mysterious dealings of a wise. Providence, death has removed from our midst Bro. Berry Avant. a mem ber of this quarterly conference, and from early boyhood a fathful member of Cross Swamp church and Sunday school; therefore be it Resolved, that in the death of Bro. Avant this conference has lost a firm friend and zealous ad vocate of her welfare and her in terests. Resolved, that while w’e sub mit with resignation to this dis pensation of Providence, know ing that his purposes are wise, although we may not compre hend them, yet we w ill cherish the memory of our departed brother and endeavor to imitate his virtues. ; ^ „ Resolved, that we sincerely sympathize with the family and friends of the deceased in their affliction, and recommend them to look for help and support to Him who is both able and w illing to protect those who put their trust in Him. St to Nov. 4 That the agricultural resource% of the State are to be fully exhibited at the State fair thia year Is showa by the fact that Clernson college has consented to aid the society In mak ing attractive the annual collecting of the field crops. , In addition to the aid secured from Clemaon college, the agricul tural si'hools of the State, the fair authorities are very anxious for farm ers to send samples of their products for exhibit. Flncouraging letters have t'een rec-rtved from every section of the State showing interest in this department and the superintendents say that they hope this year’s outlav of field crops will rival all other de partments’ efforts. During the summer Prof. J. N Harper, director of the Clernson ex periment station, has been soliciting exhibits and their work has been crowned with success. In this work Prof. Harper was aided by his asso ciate .professors at Clefnson. When the State fair opens. October 31, Prof. Harper and those who are working with him, #111 be here to make an at tractive arrangement of the articles and samples of crops sent here. Clem- son college will have a large exhibit, but nothing from the college will be in competition with Inaividuxl ex hibits. , 0 £ —j The premium list in the field crops department has been arranged In an entirely new manner this year.
