As I see the question, it is not
so much a question of how to
build roads, but funds to build
with is the problem. We need
national aid to help us build’
roads. If congress of the United;
States would provide funds for
said purpose and for every one
h&pdied thousand dollars that
or any county
within any state in the union,
would draw the same from
the. government Let the
county supplement same by put
ting up one hundred thousand
dollars and to do this let us bond
the county on 30 year bonds, and
employ competent business men
to do the work. The thing
would look fefig to bond Colleton
for five hundred thousand dol
lars to bui 13^ good roads, but by
having good roads for the next
30 years we would likely save
millions of dollars in time—the
lives of horses and mules and
the wear fcnd tear of vehicles
If every man from the one-horse
man up, will note how tired the
horse or mule is after pulling a
load over had roads he then can
realize why his horse or mule
does not last long. We should
have 20 years active service
from the horse or mule, where
we get about 10 years. -Our
vehicles kept well oiled should
serve us for at least 12 year,
where they serve about three to
six years, and then the haroeas
is broken up by bad roads and
we stall and get angry, whip the
stock when we should not do it
All of these bad roads are
coating us, in the way of killing
stock, breaking down vehicles,
and tefcrlng up harness ten times
more than it would cost us to
build good roads.
If we will get at it in astrictly
business like way, why not bond
the county and build the roads.
Let every true man to
and his county, study this im
portant question. . ,)

pened to William Miley a few
days ago at Ruffin. Mr. Miley
had been playing ban, but had
stopped to rast, and in the mean-
