Austin Sauls, of Beaufort, spent Saturday and Sunday in town with relatives. Mias Kathleen DeTreville has gone on a visit to her friend, Miss Algie Wichman, on Sullivan’s Island. Capt. C. C. Among those who left yesterday for Columbia to attend the meeting of the State Farmers’ Union are: Jas. E. Peurifoy. Jno. Q. Jaques, Jr. and W. W. Smoak. ’ Miss Cora L. Connor, who has been spending sometime on Sullivan’s Island, has gone to her home on the Edisto, where she will spend three weeks, returning to Walterboro August 15. The revival meeting at Zion church being conducted now by Rev. J. S. M. Finch, the pastor, assisted by Rev. B. F. Halford of Walterboro, is being quite a success. Services are being held in the morning and at niglrt. A large rattlesnake was killed by W. P. Addison near Adams Run recently. It weighed 90 pounds and y M. Frank and claimed her dearly be loved husband. Jack J. Frank, whom we all loved. He was stricken* with one stroke of paralysis July 11th and July 15th, about one o’clock, he had a second stroke and then about three o’clock next morning the third stroke killed him. He was a kind-hearted and true Christian and was loved by •n all who knew him. He had been married three times, first to Miss Liza Hiott, second to Miss Annie Basel, and third to Miss Lizzie Hern- V don, who survives him. He leaves a wife, six children and ten grand-, children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. His fun eral was conducted by Rev. John J. Williams of Augusta, Ga., at Grace church and the interment* was at Grace cemetery in the presence of a host of relatives and friends. Mrs. P. & Beach and two daugh ters, Misses Lee Gattie and Daisy, of Tampa, Fla., arrived here last week on a visit to friends and relatives. They were accomnanied by T. L. Risher, Mrs. Beach’s father, who had been visiting her for a few days. Hon. D. L. Smith spent last week in Columbia, jihere he went to at tend a meeting of hia legislative committee. While there Mr. Smith arranged to get a warrant for the pay ox the managers m the special •lection last fall. This money should reach Walterboro this week. LODGE LOCALS Lodge, July 25.—Probably you have already heard of our sing ing school which has just closed, if not, I will tell you about it Through the instigation of Rev and Mrs G A Martin, we obtain ed the service of Prof McD. 5 Weams, of Dayton, Va. He taught a short session of only ten days, hut with marked im provement to all whose condi tion permitted them to attend. He gave a concert at the close, Friday evening, which was well attended and gr&tly enjoyed by all. The occasion was k some what added to by short addresses delivered by Prof Weams, Rev Martin and Prof H K Strfckland. Prof Weams has gone to Easley, S. C., where he will conduct an eighteen aay's nor mal. The many friends and retatives of Frank Strickland, of Ogleaby, Texas, will he pleased to learn of his visit among us again for a few weeks.
