The women of Walterboro and the women of Bamberg are enlisted in civic leagues and they are dilligent in improving the looks of their res pective towns. A wise young man always reaches the towns having in dustrious civic leagues for June brides.—The State. endeavor to attend. It is a duty a teacher owes herself to thus prepare for the truly gre^t work of teaching. Too many of our schools are filled with teachers who are not prepared. Any teacher worth while as a teacher will have professional pride, and if she, or he, has, she will attend the county summer school, if not able to attend the State school. Miss Carrie Weekly is at Wofford now getting ready for the work ahead of her as assistant teacher in the summer school. Miss Weekley is already one of the best teachers the county af fords, and if she finds it essential to attend the State summer school, how much more essential that some of bur other teachers attend some place of training. Let the trustees refuse to employ teachers who do not? prepare themselves for their work. Theirs is the responsibility and the duty to fee that their schools are well provided with competent teachers. Methodist parsonage. On account of the inclemency of the weather, the crowd was not as large as was expected, however, the evening seemed to lie enjoyed by those who did attend. The community has been enlivened by the return of the girls and boys from the different colleges. Among those Who are at home for the sum mer vacation are: Misaea Lula and Aurelia May from Lander. Spencer Connor .and Washie Risher from Clemson and James F. Risher from the ptadel. The following young ladies, are the guests of Mr. and Mra. P. J. Liston, are Misses Marie Dukes and Ruth Shuler ofr St. George and Ethel and Cecil Arnette of Walterboro. Adams Run, June 25.—Special: Bryan Springs was quite a poular resort Sunday. William Perry and few days, family, accompanied by J J Ay$nt, went early in the day and remained until the afternoon. Mr and Mrs E L Chassereau, H D Dodd, Mr Kearse, Miss Mamie Ackerman. Julius Reeves and Miss Nonie Dodd visited the springs in the afternoon. This ride was com plimentary to their visiting guests, Mr. Reeves and Miss Ackerman. Mrs. Hill, of Edisto Island, visited her brother, F Y Legare, Sunday. Mrs Ada Barnwell and grand daughters. Misses Marian and Char lotte Brown are visiting the Hon Hawkins Jenkins at Pinopolis. Mimes Julia and Annie Larsen will return Tuesday with Mim Ciiffton Grey to Varnville to attend the dance Wednesday night. Thev will also witness two ball games while there, but will return home Friday. Mrs T J Taylor will return Mon day from a brief visit to Sullivan’s Island. Mim Connor, the teacher of the Toogoodoo school, left Saturday for her home at Greeleyville. Mim Connor has made many friends during her sojourn here, who hope she will return another year. Mrs Belle Seabrook. who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs S Palmer, returned to Rockville last at home for a short stay. Henry Stokes of Bamberg is visit ing Spencer Connor this week. Mias Sarah Hammet after a pleas ant visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Connor returned to her home in Biackville on last Tuesday. Mrs. S. M. Connor is expected to visit her son Dr. J. 1). Moots of Hendersonville at the DEATH OF HAZEL EDITH ULMER. Silently the death angel came into the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Ul mer and claimed for its victim their only girl, Hazel. She was permitted to stay with us only a short while having been born May 23. 1909 and died May 15; 1910. How precious are the little acts she did, and the short eleven moi.ths she cherished our home. But it is not home now since that, awful day we stood by her side watching and praying for her to be spared for us. Her death was a great shock to the community. She wm a picture of health, and was sick only a few days and not thought seriously ill until 5 o’clock when con vulsion set in and she struggled be tween life and death untill eleven when she died. But we know where to find her and by the help of God we will meet her face to face and parting will be no more. The burial services were conduct ed by Rev. O. L. Durant, and the precious one was laid to rest in Beth el cemetery. We are grieved more than tongue Chn tell, and more but those who have been tried know what it is to bear. \ We can say like Job, The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. We will find the chjtsteniqg rod was for our good, yes when we reach tire better land of rest, we’ll know it was best had wf but understood. God chastens most the ones he loves best and in the future we shall find it is not all of death to die, and shall some hour know and stand why all these bitter sorrows and heartaches wore for our good.
