The Antomfttic T8bQl(ltof .._..^ Di(1 though the acreage was about fifty per cent, below’ the usual, was very good, and the market held excep tionally well, making money for those who had anything like a crop. The same was true about the beet stand as a rule,- was poor, but mar ket is still from three to five dollars per drum of 100 bunches. The potato crop, on account of the adverse heasons, will be both late and short in yield, but the indica tions are that the market will be even, if not high all through. On account of Norfolk having the same dry cold weather during what should he the growing season, their crop too is reported late and short, giv ing us more time to market ours. Commencing with Florida, each trucking section has its time within which to market its crops, and back sets usually throw them with those who should come after, making over stocked markets and hence low prices. Quite a number of the pota toes have been maketed, and the bulk of the crop will commence to move next week. Cotton, despite the dry weather, as a crop, looks well and the stand generally is good. Some, however, had to do considerable replanting, naturally making it a little late. The bulk of the corn of this section is grown after the truck crops tre harvested, but those who have early corn have good prospects so far. The proportion of early com with us is so small that it counts for little in the crop as a whole. The truck lands, on account of the high state of cultivation and unusual fertility, are not adapted to the “Williamson plan” of growing com. The com will not wait, and neither will grass nor weeds. Our com is worked rap idly from start to keep down the grass and weeds, which grow very luxuriantly. Taking into consideration this whole district, the outlook is bright for good crops all around, and we are hoping fpr top prices. Our great need now is water; without rain we cannot hope to make much, but with good rains now our potato crop would well nigh double within the next 10 days. The season so far has been fine for killing grass and getting crops clean, and with rain, enough now to make them, the com and cotton crops of this section should be of the “Bumper Variety.” Much more attention is being paid now towards getting and planting good seed in our country, and indi cations are that the country is wak ing up, and we too. are going to grow “hog and hominy” together with our money croi>s. Think it would be well for some of the County Fair Association to. send emissaries to this country and stir up a little more enthusiasm h**re in regard to it.
