Elsewhere in this issue will be found the card of C’apt. G. W. Way. of Mt. Carmel, whjj is a candidate to succeed himself as a member of the ' house of representatives from this county. Captain Way was elected two years ago, and has decided to > yield to the numerous requests, made by his friends, to become a can didate. Captain Way is well known throughout the county. He was a Confederate soldier, having been en listed in Hagood’s Brigade in and was captured at Petersburg, but was parolied later and rejoined j the army at Fort Fisher, serving to | the end of the war and surrender ing at Greensboro, N. C. Since that time Captain Way has l>een en joying the esteem of his friends and neighbors in private life. Two years ago he decided to round out his career by serving as a legislator. ! His work in the lower house is j known, the work of the delegation | having been published in this paper from time to time. Mr. an 1 Mrs. C. E. Patterson, Jr., and Raymond Pat terson attended the memorial at Ire land Creek Saturday. - DANCE AT HYRNE’S HALL The dance at Hyrne’s Hall last Wednesday night was a succeos in every particular. This was given by the young ladies of the town to their young men friends, who had been constantly giving dances for them; so in order to reciprocate, the young ladies decided to give this4»nce. A meeting of the girls was called some days ago and it was decided to have this a card dance, and several days prior to this preparations were con stantly being made looking to the success of this occasion. The music was furnished by the Walterboro Musical Club, who rendered exceed ingly good music, and who w* re very liberal in their encores. Delicious fruit punch was served throughout the evening: 'th* punch bowl being presided over by Mrs. U- W. Davis and Mrs. E. J Witaell.
