AN ENTERTAINMENT
One of the rmwt interestinpr thingrs
that tver occurred in the history of
Colleton county was the entertain
ment jriven at the closing of the
Kaysor’s school on March 2 h're the
mijrhty sun disclosed his majestic
rays of dancing sunlight from our
lai?l, and gloom and darkness began
to hover aver the beautiful landscape
jthe grounds were fairly alive with
an immense crowd of eager specta
tors impatiently waiting for thte
doors to be thrown open and the ex-
| ercises to begin. Promptly at seven
i o’clock the ciirlains *01^ drawn
! back displaying to the audience.a
most picturesque stage which could
only have been planned and decorat
ed by skillful hands. The back of
the stage was most beautifully deco
rated with an immense cedar wreath
with bunches of flowers placed on
each side and under this were ar
ranged very neatly the words. “Wel-
c »me all,” which seemed to heartily
extend a cordial welcome to every
one present. Just as the curtains
were drawn aside Mi*s Cora Black,
the efficient teacher of_ this tchool
stepped forward and very gracefully
delivered a few words of welcome to
the audience, after which she intro-
!duced her brother. Mr. T. A. Black,
I as orator of the night. When Mr.
| Black stepped forward the" noise
; ceased and he very fluently delivered
his eloquent address. Before closing
h * wished every boy and girl in the
surrounding community would catch
the educational fever eiv a year
eldnsed. Then came the program
which had been very carefully ar
ranged.

sunlieams reflected from their good
works. Now friends, if you wish
this to come to pass there is no bet

in schools and entertainments. 1

will continue to keep the educational
whe?l turni'ng so we will have the
explicit pleasure of attending these
entertainments often.
Miss Black has been teaching in
this section for two terms and she
has so far met with perfect-success
in her noble works. The trustees
have secured her services for another
month. 1 trust that God will crown
her future career with unfailing

the acts the Audience was entertained
by swjpet strains of melodious music
from the harmonieg, guitar and vio
lin which was rendered very nicely
by Messrs Cleveland Gooding and T.
A. Black. The exercises continued
for four hours, but the almost per
fect order of the crowd to the etid
gave an eyewitness the courage to
say that the few perfffmers had not
prepared their, vfbrk in vain, but
