The County Union met at eleven
o’clock Saturday morning, the fol

The following resolutions were
adopted unanimously:
Whereas, our national president,
C. S. Barrett, and the central com
mittee are endeavoring to put down
gambling in farm products by having
an appropriate law passed, therefore
be it resolved,
1. That we heartily commend these
officials. for their good work and
trust they will succeed in having
such legislation enacted.
2. That the county secretary' be
instructed to send a copy of these'
resolutions to President Barrett and
haw them published in the Farmers
Union Sun.
After a dis.'assion of many matters
relative to the union, among then
being the Farmers’ Union Depart
ment of The Press and Standard, the
raising of horses and mules, the corn
growing contest, etc., Mr. Peurifoy
PROGRAM FOR MEETING.
The following program has been
prepared for the next meeting of
the Walterboro local to be held Sat-
urdav evening at 3 o’clock:
1. Gasoline Engine on the Farm —

. 3. Preparation of Land for Cotton
—A. C. Beach.
4. Unionism—Jas. E. Peurifoy.

A full attendance of the members
is urged. The meeting will begin
.promptly at 3 o’clock.
CROP CONTEST.
The time for entering the crop
contest of the County Farmers’
Union was extended from March 1st
to April Ut by a Vote of the union
Saturday. It was also provided that
if there were not at least 25 entries
in each class, no prizes would be
awarded. In other words, there
must be 25 competitors for the best
acre of corn and the same number
for the cotton, etc.
Applications must be in the hands
of the committee by April 1st. These
may be sent to Jas. E. Peurifoy,
Walterboro, chairman of the contest
committee.

One of the most discouraging
things in connection with the County
Union meetings is that the delegates
will not come to the meetings at the
time of opening. It ia well known
that the time of meeting is 11 o’clock
(a. m. not p. m.), yet not one-third
of the delegates are ever at the court
houae on time. They keep coming
in till 1 o’clock, and by the time the
last delegate gets in others begin to
leave. Consequently half that is
done at the meetings is not known
