Mrs GrifT Beach of Savannah, Ga., is spending some time with her sis ter. Mrs J. K. Linder,of Mt. Carmel. Arthur Beach, who has been visit ing in Jacksonville. Fla., has return ed home to spend the summer. Little Miss Dora Beach is spending some time with Misses Dora Ix*a and Alalnise Linder. Miss Lilia Beach visited her sister, Mrs. Tom Linder, last week. There will be a pindar shelling at E. C. Beach’s tonight. We were very serry to learn of the death of little Derrel Steedly, for he was such a bright little boy. The many friends of Mrs. Sonia Beach are glad to learn that she is up ag'iin. Mrs Frank Cone of Litter is spend ing some time with relatives near Mt Carmel. The marriage of Miss Lula Preacher and Mr. David Fender, which took place at the Bethel Methodist parsonage on De* • 2o at C> o’clock, was a very quiet af fair. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. W. Burgess, with only a few witnesses present. Toe bride never looked lovelier than on this occasion. She was dressed in a brown coat suit with ihat and gloves to match. She is the oldest daughter of Mr and MrsJ. W. Preacher and is a young lady of lovable disposition. The groom is the son of Mr. Wy man Fender and is a young business man. This young couple received j some very nict and useful presents. Mr and Mrs. Fender are residing at Ashton. BRELAND-CROSBY. A marriage of considerable inter est was that of Miss Elvy Breland and Mr..Kistler Crosby, which took place at the home of the bride’s par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Breland, on December 30th at 4 o’clock in the af ternoon. The ceremony was per formed by Dr. A. W. Hudson, with only a few relatives and friends pres ent. The bride was beautifully gowned in white. She has many friends who wish her much happiness. \ The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. V. Crosby and is a prosper ous young farmer of this section, who has many friends to wish him well. Mr. and Mrs. Crosby have made their home near Black Creek. Guess Who. Ruffin, S. We have had. for Florida, what is called a terrible w inter, with heavy frosts and cold winds. In some places all fruits have been badly injured, but there are still a good many oranges that are sound and sweet. Spring is beginning to show itself in building trees, opening flowers and springing grass. Gardening is enjoying more than usual attention. Quite a large number of northern people are^ here to enjoy our more genial climate. Some will stay, but the most of them will go back as the weather grows warmer. Am always glad to see your paper. It is like some one from home telling us of the people we know and love. D. M. B. HAMPTON NEWS Hampton. Feb. 19. The farmers in this section are very busy now. Some are plow ing and others are trying to get their supply of ferti lizers. Our school is progressing very nicely under the management of Miss Lillie Preacher of V’arnville. Mr and Mrs M. B. Johnston aie very proud of the arrival of a very fine boy! which came to live wkth them a few days ago. The death angel visited the home of Mr and Mrs Jerry Googe and to* k from them their precious babe of only a few’ weeks old. This little bud of love has gone to live wdth its God above. Mrs Willie Wilson has been sick for some time, but we art* glad to say that she is~some better. Suliscriber. FIGHT OVER TILLMAN CASE- Edgefield, Feb. 16. As a result * f 1 a discussion entered into by Messrs Ben. L. Jones, of this town, and Walter Stevens of North Augusta, as to the Tillman case the latter was badly though hot seriously wounded with knife at the hands of the for mer. Both are sympathizers of Mrs. Tillman, and it -was rather surprising that they should have fallen out about it. The feeling is so intense here, however, and Edgefield's blood is so awakened with sympathy for the young mother and indignation over her recent suspense that it is no wonder that even friends should wreak their vengeance on each other if they can’t land on some fellow of, a different view’. Particularly sad is the death of little Fannie^Belle Smith, the ten- yeai-old daughter of Mr and Mrs O S Smith, which occurred at 6 o’clock Thursday afternoon; Feb. 10. After a week of suffering the child passed away to her eternal home in the Heavens of rest. Her death wa s caused by being seriously burned Fridyy, Feb. 4. While stardmg with her back to the fire her dress caught, burning the most of her clothipg. She’ was ready to die when her time came. The morning before she died we were dressing her and she kept saying to her mother that she was going home and would she not come with her too. She waa laid to rest in the Evergreen Ceme-- tery near the side of her brother, George Smith, who had preeeeded her to the better land. She leaves to mourn their loss, her father, mother and two sisters, threat brothers and a host of relatives and frieeds.
