quite a spell since I gave you any
thing for publication —in fact, it has
been so long that I fear Uncle Jack
| has become possessor of my space in
'your columns. If that he true. 1
can assure you that I shall not think
1 hard of you nor Uncle Jack. Uncle
Ja_*k and I are fast friends, though
he. passed right near our domicile
the other day and did not stop.
Guess he was headed for some place
where pudding sausage and back
bone were more in evidence. Xmas
passed off around hen 1 very quietly.
Owing to the fact that there is a
great deal of sickness ab«uit here,
the usual and much looked for Xmas
trees were not erected.
Mr. T. G. Smoak has been con
fined to his bed for forty one days
with typhoid fever. Mr. C. L.
Smoak has been critically ill for the
past week; we are glad to say how
ever, that both are on the road to
recovery.
Former County Commissioner
D. M. Westbury is very ill at tbis
time and is not expected to live but
a short while.
Dr. C. C. Mack of Florida and
Lieut. Jake Mack of Va., with their
families, spent the holidays w’ith
the formers parents here. Dr. H.
L. Mack and wife are in Baltimore,
Md, seeking pleasure.
Miss Lottie Givens of Bryan sjient
the holidays here with friends. Miss
Lottie is quite popular here and has
many, many friends that are always
glad to set* ner come and are much
pained when she departs.
The farmers are very uneasy about
their small grain crop, as the ground
has been frozen for so many nights
in succession.
Well, we will soon cease to write
1909 and write 1910. The old year
has about passed, Whatever trou
bles, failures, griefs and disappoint
ments we may have encountered in
the past, we should not allow* them
to cross the threshold of the New*
Year. Let us not carry them long
er, but look hopefully to the future
and trust god and all will Ik? well.
