The farmer can hope to be indepent of the cotton speculator only by placing himself in a position to hold his cotton until he thinks prices justify his selling. The courageous act of President Barrett last has been worth many millions of dollars to the South. If he had not called on the farmers to plow up a part of the cotton planted, we would have had nearly a million bales more, and many bushels of corn, oats, and tons of hay, less. If the farmers had produced a million bales more, the speculator would have been able to press the price down. The farmers should loaf out anoth er year. An all-cotton crop means less money to the firmer. Plant home supplies, have an abundance. You can not succeed without having ‘‘hogand hominy" of yoorown rais ing. Be sure to raise enough hay to feed your cattle and horses. We must raise more stock in the South. Let everyone assist by adding to the number of good cattle and horses.—Farmers’ Union News. This new Addition came into being Saturday afternoon, and is a chartered local, with 13 members. This local has its meeting place at Buck Head school house and is in the center of a thickly settled com munity of independent farmers. Considerable interest was shown in the organization and it is safe to predict a healthy growth in the near future. The officers of this new local are: President, J. A. Jones; vice presi dent, J. L.
