“AJI iDUL SUNDAY SCHOOL ”
Stokes. Nov. 26.—Editor Press
and Standard: I herewith, hand
you a paper prepared by .Miss Alma
Huffman, and read by her at Doctor’s j
Creek Sunday School the 7th day of
NovernWr.
M»s» Huffman is the teacher of
the Omega school, also a member
and teacher of the Doctor’s Creek
Sunday School. She did not solicit
the publication of this jaiper, but
the Sunday School enjoyed it very
much indeed, that I thought it
worthv of your columns, and, no
doubt, wiU be enjoy«*d by
the readers of your paper, and if I
am responsible in any degree for the
production or publication of Miss
Huffman’s paper on “The Ideal Sun
day School,” the responsibility is a
pleasure, indeed.
Yours truly,
Sam B. Saunders.

Misa Huffman’s paper follows:
The subject I have chosen for to
day is ooe upon which much can be
said. I suppose I have been assign-
eft this work merely to put this part
of the machinery in motion. Be
fore the discussion of the subject I
ask of each one the careful consider
ation the question might demand.
Why Mr. Saunders has assigned me
this work is beyond my knowlsdge,
and especially before hearing from
my more competent and efficient co-
workers. Should I fail to interest
or entertain, you must charge it to
Mr. Saunders and not myself.
By now I suppose every one is
questioning what the subject is
“An Ideal Sunday School.” I con
fess in the beginning that I do not
ever remember attending ”An Ideal
Sunday School,” therefore, cannot
sptadi from experience, but will
have to outline to you my way of
having this kind of school. Suppose
in ordir to find out what is meant
by the word ”Ideal” "it would be
best tft see what Webster says ef the
work: Existing in the mind or in
favor only, unreal, fit for a model,
conception of perfection, model of
excellence. Conception of Perfec
tion is the meaning we will use in
reference to the *‘Ideal Sunday
School.” So we would have our
subject changed so as to read thut>:
the Sunday School that is going on
to Perfection.
The question now arises as to how
to attain to that perfection. 1
would answer by taking Jesus
Christ for our model, (for there is
none other perfect). After taking
our model the next would be in the
selection of a Godly man or woman
for superintendent for this is the
main pulse by which a Sunday
School can be judged. Not only
ahouk) the superintendent be a God
ly man, but all the teachers should
be Christians, not by manners but
by example.
1 can relate to you instances where
1 have seen the superintendent and
teachers that would use whiskey and
profanity, then go around saying
that they did not know' why it w'as
that the scholars did not become
Christum*. Would any of you who
are farmers* plant grass seed and
excect cotton or corn. Then in or
der to have “An Ideal Sunday
School” thesuperintendentandteach-
«ers Aould be consecrated Christians,
and therefore we can never be too
^careful in theselection of either, for
• we need men and women who will
push the work forward, each co
operating one with the other.
It i» well to use the blackboard in
the school, as to the time, place and
object of lesson taught.
The singing should by no means
be neglected, for many people are
reached and brought to Christ in
this way. And mast especially do
we need the help of the children in
this part of our exercises, for every
child feel? a greater interest in any
thing that they can take part in.
Now. let each of us, scholars as
•well tin superintendent, and teachers,
go to work and see howlnear perfec
tion we can make our school.

The bride was very tastefully

in her * arms a lovely bouquet of
