ments from their domestic duties.

the “business” or the "people” that
attracts so many people to come ii*
nur midst I hardly know which; both
I hear.
Mrs Isham Padgett has just r -
turned home after a pleasant visit
to her sister Mrs Fletcher Dukes of
Eutawville.
Mrs Jane Black and Mrs Minnie
Fripp both of Walterboro were
guests at the home of Mr Robt.
Black last week.
Mr& Delia and Della Drawdy two
of our charming girls visited their
cousin Wade Drawdy of Williams a
few days since.
Isham Padgett went to Ehrhardts
on business a few days ago. He
wmre a “durby which was indeed
very becoming.
Mr and Mrs Robt Black left here
Friday last to visit their daughter
Mrs P B Sanders of Mount Holly
S. C. W r e wish them a very pleas
ant visit.
Messes Marie Wolfe and Mattie
Padgett, two of our Ruffin girls
have returned home after an extend
ed visit to relatives in Charleston
and Eutawville. We are glad in
deed to welcome them back, for
every ray of sunshine adds joy to our
town.

Smyly died Oct. 7, he also was a long
sufferer. They both seemed ready
and willing to die. We deeply sym
pathize with the bereaved families |

I came across a piece which I wish
every mortal being would accept its
advice. It was entitled; “If w’e but
knew.” 1 thank Mrs Eli Smith for
her thaughtfulness in having it pub
lished and 1 feel that every caueas-
sian should give it a hearty amen.

this, it does not altogether satisfy

is death when he lays his had upon
the young and hoars their soul away,
and leaves us lonely and sorrowful.
Even then, however, although we
miss them and cherish their memory
and refuse to he altogether com
forted. it is a great source of satis
faction to know', that if they live
right, that with them, it was not all
of life to live in this world, but that
the life th'-y now live is not measur
ed by the flight of years, but in that
land of blessed sunshine death never
comes-the sound of the grave

dark casket never darkens the door
of that blessed abiding place- the

a tie in number of points but the
judges after a careful consideration
finally decided in favor of the nega
