DEATH OF A CHILD.
The death anjfel visited the home

Culbert. He was sick only a few
days and all that loving hands and
hearts could do was done for him
)ut to no avail. Little Culbert was

sisters and seven brothers to mourn

Little Culbert was a kind and lov
ing child, and all who knew him
oved him, but his brights smiles
will not be seen on this earth any
more, and no one can All his place.
The last words he spoke was to call
his mother, but was too weak to say
what he wanted to. Hit bbdy was
aid to rest at Shiloh cemetery.

TEACHERS CERTIFICATES
THE LAW REQUIRES ALL WHO TEACH
IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO
SECURE THEM.
The school law of this State re
quires every teacher in a public
school of any kind to have a certifi
cate to teach. The State superin
tendent of education has recently
called attention to the law, and a
circular letter calling particular at
tention to this requirement H&s re
cently been sent by the high school
inspector to the principal of every
State aided high school. Notwith
standing all these, dozens of teach
ers in these schools througout the
State are yet without certificates.
Most of them are depending upon
their diplomas. A diploma does not
entitle the holder to teach; a diploma
from an accredited college gives the
holder the right to a certiAcate to
teach. Some of these schools are
going to And themselves embarras
sed. since no money whatever will be
sent tb any of these schools until
every teacher in it has a valid cer
tiAcate.
Mrs. Bryan leaves several daugh
ters, a husband and a host of other
relatives and friends to mourn their
loss. I.et us l>e reconciled when we
think that our small loss is her great
gain.

A DELIGHTFUL PARTY.
A delightful birthday party was
given by Miss Sue Ella Sanders Fri
day night last when she entertained
large number cf her friends.
Some very pretty music was render
ed by Miss Hattie Smith and Willie
Warren, all joining in the plays.
The refreshments which were
served consisted of ice cream, cake,
candy and fruit.
The guests departed about mid
night, all expressing themselves as
having a nice time and wishing Miss
Sanders many happy returns.
Those present were: Mesdames J.

Smith, Mabel Lawrence, Rubie and

DEATH OF MRS. FRANKUN
BRYAN.
That grim monster Death has again
entered one of our homes * and took
away our dear friend, Mrs. Frank
lin Bryan. She died Sunday morn
ing at 2 o’clock. She suffered long
and intensely, and when the death
angel at last knocked gently at her
he&rts door she was ready and .wil
ing to meet her God. /y
She is no longer shrinking from
the winter wind or lifting her calm,
pure forehead to the Summers kiss;
no longer yearning with a holy heart
for heaven; no longer toiling pain
fully along the path upward and on
ward to the everlasting rock on
which art 1 based the walls of the
Most High no longer here; she is
there, gazing, seeing knowing and
loving as the blessed only see and
know and love. Earth has one angel
less, and heaven one more. Already
kneeling at the throne she has re
ceived her welcome, and is resting
on the bosom of her Saviour. If
human love hath power to penetrate
the veil (and hath it not?) then the
ones she has left behind have the
blessedness of knowing that an angel
loves them.
Death comes at Christ’s command
to call believers home. He comes to
set the weary spirit free, and rude
though the hand may be that knocks
off the fetters and painful though be
the process of liberation what need
the prisoner care for that when it is
to Freedom, life, ancFhome that he
is about to be emancipated? The
funeral services took place at Bethel
her borne church this afternoon and
were conducted by her pastor Rev.

Little Lucas Herndon, son of Mr
and Mrs Herndon, departed this life
Monday night September 10th, and
was laid to rest at Grace church on
Tuesday the 11th. He was seven
years and four months old.
