THE RUFFIN SCHOOL
DEDICATION OF NEW BUILDING NOT I
NEED. THOUGH HANDSOME BUILD
ING IS COMPLETED.
.,0
Dr H \V Mack, county superinten
dent of education, Joseph M Moorer,
Rs<j. an eloTjuent young lawyer of
Walterlxrro, and W W Smoak. Jr.
Ye editor, went to Ruffin last Thurs
day on invitation from the Trustees
of that school district, to f>e present
at the dedication of the new school
building. In extending the invita
tion, the trustees stated that the
patrons and friends of the school
would assemble and a picnic dinner
would be served on the grounds
after the program of the day had
been concluded.
It was a source of keen regret
that these plans miscarried, and
that, owing to some misunderstand
ing, no one turned out to hear the
impassioned and eloquent addresses
which would have made the vale
ring. As it was, the speakers could
only ‘‘view the landscape o’er" and
look into the new school ..house
through closed windows. There
was a small balance due the carpen
ter, and hrrefused to allow the de
dicatory exercises to be held in the
building till ha had been paid in full.
According, Miss Emily Skxnan, the
efficient and popular teacher, was
using a spacious room at the resi
dence of Mr W W Carter which had
been fitted up for the purpoee.
It was with pleasure, however,
that these gentlemen learned before
leaving in the afternoon that ar
rangements had been made to finish
paying off the indebtedness of the
school and that school would be
opened in the new building forth
with.
The new school house would be a
credit to a much larger town than
Ruffin. It is located rear the rail
road, about 200 yards from the de
pot. and isa well built and modern
structure. It is large enough to
accommodate an attendance of at
a monument to the liberality of the
patrons who contributed of their
means to its erection.
IN MEMORIAM.
In loving memory of my dear
father, J A Platt, who pa>sed away
July 21th, 1!M)0, had he lived until
August 20th he would have been
fifty years old.
He had l>een >n failing health for
a long time, but lung fever and
other troubles hastened his end v
He never murmered nor complained,
but said the Lord’s will be done.
His last words were “Give me rest,”
and he passed away without a strug
gle.
All was done for him that loving
hands and hearts and medical aid
could do, but the good Lord saw fit
to take him to rest. May the God
of the fatherless and widow comfort
us.
He was a faithful member of the
Methodist church about twenty-two
years, and a kind and loving husband
and father from us has gone.
He was laid to rest at the old
White church cemetery in the
presence of a large crowd of rc
tives and friends. The funeral
services were conducted by his
pastor. Rev Sam Yarn, assisted by
Rev. J A Tuten.
He leaves a broken hearted widow,
two daughters, one son, one adopted
son, six grandchildren, a mother,
four sisters, end one brother to
mourn his loss.
Sigh for the touch of a vanished
hand
And the sound of a voice that is
stilled,
There is a vacancy in our hearts.
That never can be filled.

are very sorry indeed to state that
the past week has been a week of

We are very sot ry to learn of the

smiling face.
Min Laura Adams returned last
Saturday from a pleasant visit to
Lodge and Hampton; and she is wel
comed by her many friends.
I. Kinard lost his youngest child
last week. We trust that the family
realizes that the child has gone to a
better resting place.
Archie Strickland has a smile that
will not wear off soon. Its a girl.
The news from Ruffin was very
interesting last week. “Prosperity,"
we thank you very much for your
welcome invitation to the Ruffin

Thomas Black of Ruffin was a
visitor in our town last Sunday.
The Farmers’ Union of this place

Women Suffer Agonies
from Diseased Kidneys
And Mott Women Do This Not Knowing the
Real Cause of their Condition
These poor, suffering women
have been Jed to believe that their
misery of mind snd body is entire
ly due to “ills of their sex. M Usually
the kidneys and bladder are re
sponsible—or largely so. And in
such cases, tbs kidneys and blad
der are the organs, that need and
must have attention.
Those torturing, enervating sick
beadacheg, dragging pains in back,
groin and limbs, bloating and swell
ing of the extremities, extreme
nervousness or hysteria, listless
ness and constant tired, worn-out
feeling—are almost certain symp
toms of disordered and diseased
kidneys, bladder and liver.
DeWltt’s Kidney and Bladder
Pills have, in thousands of cases,
been demonstrated as remarkably
beneficial in all such conditions of
female organism—affording the
most prompt relief and permanent
benefit.
As an illustration of what these
Pills will do, Mrs. P. M. Bray of
Columbus. Ua., writes that she was
very ill with kidney trouble, and
that sbe ia now well—and that
these Pills are what cured her.
They are very pleasant to take,
and can in no case, produce any
deleterious effects upon the system
—as syrupy, alcoholic, liquid prep-
&
in
arations are apt to do.
