Pine Grove, Oct. U.^fWe are hav ing delightful fall weather now and the farmers are very busy picking their cotton. We are very sorry indeed to hear of the illness of Ollie Benton, but we hope for him a speedy recovery. Mrs Mamie Robinson of Great Swamp has returned to her home, after a pleasant visit to relatives and friends in this section. Miss Nellie Fox of Adams Run spent Saturday and Sunday in this section with Misses Fannie and Mayna Renton. Misses Minnie and Julia Dopson of Islandton spent last Sunday at the home of A E Getsinger. Mr and Mrs W J Getsinger gave a pinder boiling last Saturday night. Among those present were: Miss Nellie Fox of Adams Run. Quillie Blocker of Great Swamp, Mrs Mamie Robinson of Great Swamp, Tom and Lucas Berry and Talbert Morris of Ruffin, Mr and Mrs Bay- nard Benton and 'others. They all seemed to enjoy it very much. Mrs C W Burgess and daughter Miss Cora visited Walterboro Friday. Misses Cora and Effie Burgess spent Saturday night very pleasantly with the Misses Preacher near Hud son’s Mill. Miss Gertrude Hudson left a week or two ago for Columbia. She will attend the Columbia Female Collge. “Some one” misses her very mnch but he says “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Dr and Mrs Robt Hudson of the Rice Patch visited telatives here last Sundaj. There was an interesting meeting* of the Bamberg county Farmers’ Uuion in the court house here last Thursday, at which addresses were made by A J A Perritt, of Darling ton, State president, and E W Dabbs, of Sumter, State vice presi dent. Mr L C Padgett, president of the Colleton county Union, was also present and delivered an address. All of these speeches were much enjoyed by the good crowd of far mers and others who were present. Smyly died at his home at Ruffin at 3 o’clock Thursday morn ing after an illness of some time, lir. Smyly^was 56 years old and leaves a safe and a large family.
