WEDNESDAY. AUdUST. 11. 1909.
This jjapor may not be issued next
week till we can learn the result of
the election. We would urge the
managers to get the news to us at
the earliest possible moment. You
will confer a favor on us and on our
thousands of readers who will be
anxiously awaiting news of the elec
tion. There surely should be some
one at each poll who is interested
enough in the result to bring or
send us the vote of each }k»1I Tues
day night. Our office will Ik* open
to receive the news. Li t us have it.
This week we give place to the
prohibition cause, and shall write no
editorials. The cause of prohibition
is one very earnestly advocated b>
the editor of this paper. It is not a
theory of this pai>er. but a practice.
Not a person connected with this
paper in any way will touch a drop
of intoxicating beverage. This can
l»e said, we opine, by few news-
pajKMs in the country. Therefore,
we can consistently, wc think, favor
the cause of prohibition. We have
time and again refused to run
advertisements for whiskey houses,
though offered fancy prices.
We trust and confidently expect
that prohibition will win next Tues
day by a large majority, but we
want to urge that everyone who
favors it will go to the polls and
vote. It is the’ duty of every re
gistered voter a sacred duty.
PROHIBITION RALLY AT COT
TAGEVILLL
OottageTille, Aug. 9.—The
people of Oottageville gave ue
an exceedingly pleasant day in
the way of a prohibition picnic
on Friday, Aug. 0th.
Though it was cloudy and
threatening daring the entire
day, still the rain did net inter*
rupt the exercises, and an au-
dienoa of fire or six hundred
people enjoyed listening to the
following speakers: Messrs j D
Ackerman, J B Dodd, W E Wil
lis, Mr bpratling of Alabama
and Rev H J Oauthen of Waiter-
boro. ’
The people were all disappoint
ed in not having with them the
Rev Mr Donahoe of Gharleston
and Mrs Armor of Georgia, who
had been invited to deliver ad
dresses on this occasion.
'O
Those who have been so ear
nestly working for prohibition
are very much encouraged with
the present outlook, and will
feel, as they cast their vote on
the 17lh, that it is a vote for the
uplifting and welfare of South
Carolina *
We mast give proper credit to
the ladies of Oottageville for a
most delicious dinner, which was
served in the churcti yard. They
maintained their reputation for
preparing an abundant supply of
all that is tempting to the ap
petite, and of seeing that all
present enjoyed it.
At four o’clock almost the
entire picnic party wont to the
beae bell park, where they wit-
nsssed a very iurereeting game
between Providence and Oottage
ville. Piovideoce had played
five innings and Oottageyille six
when the rain began and the
S mm was called off. The soon

THE TWO PRETTIEST GIRLS IN
• THE WORLD
And by a most strange ccRcider.ce.
they l>oth lived in Laurens. S. C., and
are both “newspaper nu n.’’ One is
Miss Jessie the idolized grand
daughter «if our belovedest extempo
rary and brother. * Col. Thomas,
Crews, of the ancient and beloved J
Laurensville Herald. Miss Colt is a
respl^ndently radiant blonde, slight;
graceful, animated, genial, and of
faultless features and < form. The
other is Mrs. Elmore Honey, the
bride, child-wife, of the knightly
young editor of the Laurens Adver
tiser. She was Mias Bellinger, of
Walterboro, the daughter of a long
and high Episcopal hierarchy, the
granddaughter of a man of blessed
memory, the Rev. Edmund Bellinger,
with whom we walked hand in hand
and heart to heart until God called
him up higher. Why then shoud
we not write thus about these two
prettiest little girls in the world?
Our pride in them is boundless.
Guido Remi died before his time.
Had he lived to see Mrs. Elmore
Boney, his Aurora, in his “Down"
picture, would have had a lovelier
face still.—Col. J. T. Bacon, in Edge-
field Chronicle.

the day as much as the visitors.
They had a fine dinner and a plenty
nf food thing* to eat.
N. T. Way and family are at his
