R. Morgan Fender died yesterday
afternoon at the Roper Hospital in
Charleston, at 1 o’clock, during an
operation for tumor. Mr Fender
was taken to Charleston Monday af
ternoon, accompanied bv his wife.
Mr. Fender was one of Colleton’s
leading farmers and was highly es
teemed. He lived only a few miles
west of Walter boro. He leaves a
wife, several childrea, a mother and
brothers and sisters. HU body will
be brought to Walterboro todav.

While the people were biwying them

Rev E. H. Beckham, the popular
Methodist pastor, was called to the
Merchants’ Hotel to unite in marri
age the fair editress of the Branch
ville Journal, Miss Estella Smoak,
and Mr. G B. Herndon, a prosper
ous young business man of Eutaw-
ville, S. C. Rumors have been afloat
for a long time about the editress
joining the wedlock club, but this
w'as denied until the last hglf hour.
The wedding was v a quiet affair,
and only a few friends had time to
witness the ceremony. Mrs Hern
don will be sadly * missed from the
community, as she was a lady who
took an active part in every under
taking, and its welfare. Mr. and
Mrs. Herndon left this afternoon for
a bridal tour. On their returi^ they
will make their future home in
Gutawville. t.
